The Money Guy show has been around for a long time, but they started a new series called Making a Millionaire. I think it’s really good! So far they’ve gotten very smart, nice couples instead of a ton of people with bad marriages, bad decisions etc.
I think a real life session would hopefully have the couple affirm their goals and action items more (the couple talk vs. MG talking) but otherwise I think it is solid.
I’ve been in a podcast rut, thank you for the recommendation. While I think the show shows that have people struggling have a lot of value, I don’t always relate, and so sometimes it’s nice to have a more harmonious picture presented.
Depending on the flavor of mess, I don’t mind. Like Ramit recently had a couple who was working through a lot of stuff around their son having been born with a major cardiac defect- it was really interesting to see them work through what they thought were different visions on money philosophies, but actually turned out to be a lot of unspoken worries and assumptions around their son and what it meant for their life.
Thank you for suggesting this! I am really enjoying it. I visited their website and thought the investment order of operations was very detailed and comprehensive. I have seen the MMM thread and it seems to line up pretty well. The most recent episode where they were talking about the 3D planning for their future decisions really hit home for me (we just transitioned to a one income family).
We have a deviation from the investment order though. They say investing in 529s should be step 8 and while I agree mostly, our state offers dollar for dollar matching on $500/year for 5 years so we are making sure we hit that match in the same bucket as employer matching (step 2).
I enjoy Ramit and some hot mess relationship podcasts (normal gossip is excellent), but I’m really enjoying the numbers based practical advice without a bunch of yelling and demoralizing (Caleb hammer cough cough)
