Ooh, adding that to the Christmas list for sure. The wiggler loves Minecraft and I love physical toys that get him off the screens ![]()
I very much struggle with gift giving so I asked my husband to take the lead this year. He made this spreadsheet that has a ton of ideas - I sent him my brainstorm to add to it but the layout / organization was his idea.
Wow that is impressive
I cannot express how much I love that “rocks” is a gift item. (And how much it delights me that seeing the link I have a very good guess which science kit it is ![]()
)
Oh and we have the flying orb balls, MIL just got them for us. Husband is very concerned- there’s no overcharge protection on them and there’s all sorts of warnings about not charging them unattended or for too long. He sees lots of fires on stuff like that so we’re going to very carefully recharge them a couple times then probably fully discharge them safely and get rid of them- that shits terrifying
they’re pretty fun though once you figure them out.
I’ve seen a reel where a kid gets a bin of rocks and another where a kid get wood scraps and hammers etc. Families that pay attention to kids are priceless
We gave Pumpkin a set of rocks last year. It was such a good present. She has also loved the sectioned box i got for her, loves sorting her rocks and bark etc in it. Haven’t done the crystal growing experiment, though.
She was 3.5yo at the time. It’s rated for 8+ according to the box, definitely had her well supervised because the rocks are small.

Yesssss and the one where a kid gets a ton of office supplies. I may do that with Oldest this year. Sticky notes and legal pads and pens and paper clips and more tape annd all that random stuff.
What box did you end up getting? We have a large ikea glass jar but it goes up where she can’t easily access.
Just took a picture for you. It was very cheap but sturdy. You can see she’s just worked out how to remove some of the dividers.
During eldest birthday my mom asked what to get her. I said tape and she laughed. I was like no seriously she keeps stealing our tape and we won’t let her have it. She was THRILLED to get tape for her birthday! Like it was the favorite part of her presents.
All the under 10s are getting tape this year.
We do a lot of painters tape here. Reduced damage
Yes we are going for the wall safe scotch tape because he’s constantly using the normal tape all over walls and furniture. And also colored painter’s tape as well.
For first nephling’s second (?) birthday, multi-colored roll of painter’s tape. This was mid-covid so I wasn’t around to see it, but apparently there was much joy and tape-covered tables.
Iron-on patches to customize their clothes. There’s a big selection on Etsy. My five year old requested lightning bolts and rainbow poop emoji.
Dropping a rec for packs of washi tape. Larva likes to cut bits and make “cities”.
I am the kid who gets a ton of office supplies
I’m thinking of getting Duckling (8yo) a raspberry pi and doing projects together with it. There seems to be a ton of projects online and he’s got the planning ability & fine motor skills now to manage with an adult helping, i think.
