Kid gift ideas?

If I buy cards and get the app, would those cards work on niece’s yoto?

Hmmmm there’s some way to transfer playlists to someone else’s account, I’ve gotten a playlist of stories from a neighbor, but I forget how. It wouldn’t map directly to the card- they’re just NFC chips to the card that activate a playlist within the Yoto’s account, that’s why you can reprogram make your own cards. So it definitely can’t be an effortless “you program the card and hand it over” if you don’t have access to their account.

My kids have loved “Ladybird audio adventures” which are kind of science adventure voyages. Also for some reason they love really old books, so Peter Rabbit’s whole series got a lot of play. There’s so many fun cards!

The app lets you upload mp3 audio files, so you could send those over to niece’s grownups and also send them a blank card if needed to attach them to.

my niece loved getting a mini flashlight and headlamp set - she used it constantly for camping in yard and playing indoors, and it felt like her own special gear

Grumble gumble Bots please go away. Extra irritated because those were some useful ideas.

Right? I didn’t report the second post because it was good even though a clear repeat. The third one was too much

Ugh I’m silly and didn’t notice

As penance here are two new-to-me sites I have been stalking for gift ideas

Sister site with open box reduced price items:

Thanks, I’m bookmarking the toy cycle one! I’m finding that as Spore gets older and develops specific interests, the local BN/resale store is mostly geared towards toddlers.

To the list, I offer https://www.crocodilecreek.com/ (not used, but friendly price-points and I feel like balls & puzzles aren’t toys that come with sentimental obligations to keep forever).

Bella Luna toys are so curated. I want everything there always :joy:

I brought home a box with sections and 4yo is spending a lot of time sorting and re-sorting her rock collection. So accessories to their favourite hobbies, obsessions and special interests that seem a bit boring & adult but are completely kid safe can be good ideas!

Oo, that’s a good idea. Kiddo has more “treasures” than what fits in the tiny box he has.

I need to remember this! Youngest got a “mining” bucket for her birthday. She now has many precious rocks to sort.

My daughter got a bauble bar bracelet making kit for her birthday. What a great gift. They customized it with her name, the beads are beautiful, and it is slowly consumable over time.

Two more things that have been great and would be fun gifts for the right kid:

  1. Ravensburger 21580 Minecraft Explorers - Cooperative Card Game for 2-4 People Ages 8 and up
This is like Forbidden Island or games like that. You work together to get the chests filled before the mobs get you. You can crank up the difficulty as needed. Fun for parents and kids. Kiddo is 6 and totally OK with it.

  2. Flip 7 Card Game
Has a similar feel to blackjack with trying to not bust but different enough to feel unique and no betting. Kid can practice adding up in the 10s,20s, 30s by adding up their hand or practice adding up to 200 by adding on the score card.
