Introduce Yourself Here

Thanks everyone! Super excited

I’ve been lurking for a while but thought I’d introduce myself! I’m Emily (emchap in places where I can snag the handle, @eachapm on twitter where alas I cannot); I work in support for a company that makes help desk software. I make a high income but I live in Los Angeles, which is unfortch bananas expensive. I have one very needy cat, and am increasingly certain it’s time to move on from LA (I cannot do another summer here and it’s only going to get hotter).

I don’t have a car and WFH normally; despite being pretty in-the-house anyway it’s been surprising how much covid has messed with me. My lease isn’t up until next year and so I’m using that time to see where I want to move. Right now, the strongest contender is Portland.

I turn 30 next year and for basically entirely emotional reasons it’s a big goal of mine to own a house/condo/whatever, and now that I’m on the precipice of that actually maybe being possible while everything else is so unstable, it’s anxiety producing. So, most of my money feelings this year are focused on that.

I am! It’s kind of fun, it means everyone I talk to mostly does the same job as me elsewhere except their website sells like flour or online dating or budgeting software.

One of us? I meant in terms of luring people to Portland haha.

I think Clare-Dragonfly’s comment was because you left the city of Portland.

Ooooooooooh I get it. Bah. Technicality. If I throw a rock hard, I hit Portland  (okay, maybe the river is a little wider than that. But basically)

Hi, I’m Igelfreundin, a 44-year-old white woman who lives in DC. I’ve been reading and occasionally posting on the MMM forums, and that has helped me get to where I am now, hopefully FIRE’d in two years, but I love the values in the OMD community. My world view is strongly shaped by being a physicist and being widowed young. I love vintage clothes, gardening, 1950’s radio programs, and noodles.

Hello and welcome!
I’m sorry you were widowed young - I can’t even imagine.

These are excellent priorities. I strongly appreciate that noodles made the top of the list :100:

Welcome! I am working on reclaiming noodles into my life after many years with rice as essentially my sole grain. What are your favorite noodle uses?

So I’ve actually made a rule for myself that I can only eat noodles once a day, just because variety is probably not a bad thing. You can make most Asian dishes subbing rice noodles for rice. A standby is sauteed garden veg with pasta and either basil or red pepper pesto, or pasta with mushrooms, blue cheese, and nuts. Tonight I had homemade ricotta gnocchi with marinara sauce, but that’s probably not a beginner level dish.

Hello. We almost met at CMC1, but you had to bow out. Good to hear you are still fighting the good fight.

Welcome @Igelfreundin

Whoops I lurked for 6 months and then started a journal before realizing this was a thread. I wondered how you got location badges!

I’m darlingpants (she/her) and I’m a recent mover to a high COL urban area in New England (it’s Boston guys, is there even another option?). I’m married to Mr Darling and we recently adopted a cat we named Nori who I’m in the process of Stockholm syndromeing into cuddling with me. We’re playing the money game on easy mode, as we doubled our joint salaries after I finished grad school in Dec 2018.
