I love arting and crafting, so I have definitely fallen down such holes - though, macrame doesn’t seem like it has many fancy tools and doodads. If you get really fancy cord, it can get expensive but even the complicated designs are really just cord, a dowel or something to hold the project, and maybe some beads if you want to get really fancy. Apart from the string of lights, this entire canopy only cost about $30 to make and occupied my creative time for a month.
Actually, do you have recommendations for bulk cord supply? I’ve been wanting to crochet some bath rugs.
Depends how comfortable you are with Amazon. I feel guilt when I buy from them but keep doing it, anyway. This is 1500 feet of cord for $21. eBay might be a good place to look, too. This cord is pretty sturdy and thick, so would probably stand up to the wear and tear of life as a carpet. Colorful cord is more expensive and, generally, doesn’t come in quantities much more than 500 feet at a time. I’m new to this world, though, so there are probably resources I’m missing. If I discover better resources, I’ll let you know
Thanks! I know the feeling about Amazon – I always check elsewhere first, but end up using them when I just can’t find something in person and would have to end up driving 45 minutes to buy it from a different big box.
Hmmm…you might be underestimating my ability to spend money on a hobby but also YESSSSSS
But also I have 2 knitting projects that I give all of you permission to hound me about completing first because I really want to wear them and they need to go from WIPs to FOs like, NOW.
And, weirdly, I haven’t found macrame supplies readily available in my area. Go figure.
Oooo… I have a cross-stitch I’ve been working on for years. I was well on my way to completing it until I got waylaid by macrame. I’ll work on that, you work on the knitting!
I do not doubt anyone’s ability to spend on hobbies. It’s so much easier than doing the hobbies themselves, usually.
If you’re wondering, the ball of cord I linked is featured in my profile photo. It is bigger than my head …and I have a big head.
I had a really good revision session yesterday.
I finally busted out my crochet again. Gonna defeat this afghan!
Okay, not me, but look at this AWESOME diorama MWP made for his dad’s tanks:
Whoa! That is incredible
That looks awesome! And so realistic!
I tried throwing pottery on the wheel for the first time.
Ooo! How was it? The first time I tried… let’s say I’m not naturally talented.
Better than expected! It must have been “beginner’s luck”
I found it to be a very soothing activity.
I spent an hour knitting last night, working on a lovely gray and yellow hat for an art trade. The gray is an acrylic/nylon/wool blend, yellow is full wool. I’m getting faster with knitting continental and purling Norwegian. The German short rows are also getting easier. One full hour with no hand pain! Miraculous.
I would have liked to do more drawing the last few days, but stressful events dictate I fall back on something with more structure, like knitting with a pattern.
I made salt dough for the kids and played with it as much as they did (possibly more) ^^
