Grocery Hauls and Pantry Snooping

I was thinking I am way high on calories because it’s all candy.
I am WAY high on sugar. I basically only eat junk. Even the raisin bran is basically all sugar.

When my husband cooks, I usually have a decent dinner, and if I have motivation, I then eat it for lunch. But depression has affected my ability to even microwave a container.

That sounds hard.

But the sugar cookie is very cute!

I’m sorry :frowning: That’s terrible. I really hope you are able to get it under control - that’s no way to live your life, but do whatever you need to do to get yourself through the day  I was also trying to be non-judgemental about the sugar. However, that really isn’t many calories either, even though they are mostly calories from carbs or sugar.

The stir fry looks really good and healthy though!

Thankfully I’m “functional” in that I go to work and do a good job. But something else still needs to change. I just hate messing with meds. Too many side effects. So I’m sticking with my current ones.

The stir fry is great. It’s just a bag of kirkland vegetables with chicken, and whatever stuff my husband throws together for sauce - so it’s an easy dinner.
My husband has also been experimenting a lot with vegetarian cooking, and last week we had some amazing black bean and quinoa enchiladas. (Homemade corn tortillas too.) Those were great leftovers.

Main storage: This built in deep pantry that came with the house. This is a lot more than we normally keep on hand but we have been stocking up for winter.

Early in the pandemic my husband wanted to make a list of everything in the pantry to help plan meals. I suggested some sort of app or spreadsheet, but he insisted that paper would be simpler. I don’t think we ever updated it.

I’m thinking about trying the app Out of Milk to track our inventory and manage grocery lists, but that will be a project for another day.

Spices are alphabetical. Once upon a time canned/dry goods were grouped by category. Now it’s all haphazard.

Tea/coffee/breakfast things in the kitchen

Baking supplies in a few random cabinets near the table that we use for an island.

I’m so impressed with everyone’s food stocking skills! I have not built up to that yet.

Jesus I would’ve bought your house for that pantry alone.

I know! At one time daffodil either posted a pic or talked about it and I was trying to figure out where to put one in my house.

That was before I discovered the whole room under my stairs that was meant as a pantry, that I’d completely forgotten existed for several years.

Whoa - a multi-layered pantry! How great!

Amazing but also yeah, I’d eat that plus more

Is that… can bread? I have never before seen can bread. This is so delightfully new.

I’m glad husband makes real food to help fight the depression monster

My husband is a phenomenal cook. Without him we’d eat spaghetti and cereal.

The only frustration is sometimes he does TOO much, and it just takes up way too much time.

I have frequent dreams of finding rooms in my house.
I’m amazed it actually happened to you!

Your pantry looks identical to one my across the street neighbor had growing up. If you live in Texas, I wonder if you have their old house.

Isn’t all Boston Brown bread steamed in a can? (I thought it did and have also only made it that way but genuinely don’t know after you said you’d never seen canned bread) It’s sooooooo good! I think my mouth watered spotting that label.

Apparently it is. I have just never encountered this bread before. Does it taste like bread? Is it textured like bread? Or is it like a British steamed pudding?

In between, I think. It tastes like molasses and heaven. Haha. Crumbier than pudding, more wet than baked bread.
