Gold Star Parenting

Awww :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I took the kids to the park by myself. And then we played in the backyard for a bit.

I said yes to a random bath request and have since figured out it was a bid to use a regulation tool! Yay for saying yes!

Random fact with no home

If you don’t know where your small change is, the clear number top part of a number block is the exact right size for the bathroom lock. Goldstar to those product deisgners

Gold fuckin’ star for me.

so I been seeing the homeschooling crew chatting about Morning Baskets. It’s essentially a handful of curated activities related to things you want to be teaching our kids. Well. Since Meowlet is super motivated by his interests, I’m trying to lean into that intrinsic motivation by doing some of this on the mornings I don’t feel like dying or the mornings I feel like dying but have to function anyway.

Last night I decided to combine his love of signs with a spanish lesson, which is really important to me.

He loved it! He was engaged with the story, we covered some words, we added some new signs, and he wants to create our own little book continuing the story in a different way with different signs.

In addition to Spanish, it was a good way to connect over breakfast. And he practiced some writing, too!

Amazing!!

I just put some sticky notes on everyone’s chairs at the dining table that have Spanish phrase related to eating and it’s gotten more enthusiasm than I expected. It also took about 5 minutes to prep. So that might be another idea to use when you have less energy.

We just have standalone phrases at each of our chairs and take turns “teaching” our phrase to everyone else at dinner. But for meowlet I bet you could string 3-4 together and turn it into a puzzle thing too where he has to line up the sticky notes to make a story.

@Bernadette since you were curious about the language program. I signed up for the free trial for talkbox.mom and a couple days later got a discount code for the booklet so I purchased it. That’s what I’m using for the phrases in our kitchen. They have promised another discount code next week for the first “box” and I’ll probably get that too.

Here’s two snapshots from the book.

We bought a new vacuum that is light weight and battery operated and works really well. My children now LOVE vacuuming and keep my stairs nice and clean. Bonus is that you can make it into a shorter like car vacuum which is just the right height for a 2 year old.

This is the one I got! I ended up getting it on the TikTok shop for a really good deal as well.

Edit to add toddler vacuuming.

My dog has started trying to eat the baby’s pacifiers, and finally succeeded in chewing off a piece when my parents were babysitting about a week ago. I was just cleaning up poop in the dog run and found the pacifier piece! I can’t explain why this feels like gold star parenting to me, but it is.
