Financial Hogwarts Houses

Hufflepuff

  • Always gives to charity
  • Is the person who calculates splitting the check at every group dinner
  • Works in a typically underpaid but really necessary field
  • Supports universal basic income

Gryffindor

  • Regularly says “I deserve it” when justifying purchases
  • Definitely spent their first paycheck immediately
  • Always buying lunch for their friends, never asks to be paid back
  • Isn’t really bothered with their 401K or pension, figures it will work out

Ravenclaw

  • has a very complicated budget spreadsheet
  • can tell you the exact day they can retire
  • knows the cheapest day to buy flights
  • offers to help their friends figure out their student loans
  • sometimes forgets to eat the lunch they brought to work because they got wrapped up

Slytherin

  • understands capital gains taxes even if it doesn’t apply to them
  • has paid off a family or friends debts’
  • spent their first paycheck on scented candles or a really nice coat
  • has a “guy for that” for every purchase
  • has debt, but views it as a smart way to leverage

I’m definitely a Hufflepuff in life, but a Financial Ravenclaw wishing they could be brave enough to be a financial Hufflepuff.

Gryffindor needs a good point, Hufflepuff needs a bad one.

I feel like Gryffindor would be a person who picked individual stocks. Maybe that stock was Google. Maybe it was Blockbuster. Maybe both.

I am a Ravenpuff (Ravenclaw primary, Hufflepuff secondary), including under your financial houses. However, I model Gryffindor IRL and would model Slytherin in your financial houses.

Real life hufflepuff and financial hufflepuff except that I accidentally went into a really high paying field.
I do like the ravenclaw spreadsheets though.
