Last night made the short ribs and green beans, which also used up our last bit of white rice. Today I made chicken liver pate from chicken livers I’ve had in the freezer for at least a year, which used some odds and ends from the fridge and used up the cheapo wino I keep in the fridge for cooking. For dinner I am making a play on the creamy tomato barley recipe @diapasoun posted, but I’m using farro I had cooked then frozen and some frozen tomatoes. I am also throwing in some vegan eggplant sausage I had in the freezer.

I think that was @daffodil2001!

Tell me more about this eggplant sausage tho pls.

Hmm maybe they’re not eggplant. Husband informs me they’re Field Roast Italian Sausage. I can’t see the ingredient list right now but in my memory there is eggplant in them. I’m not sure if they’re my favorite, but my husband got them for free from work!

my freezer is empty now!

Pulled out random snack bars and put on counter so they will be remembered to be eaten. Also found some hazelnuts, so will melt chocolate chips and pour over to make a dessert.

Used more chicken this weekend for curry. Also some frozen veggies, but those get rotated regularly. Need to eat more berries, some blackeyed pease, and several types of homemade dal, plus some saag, that have been in there too long. Also still have too much homemade chicken broth, but I’m working through that with curries.

Made quesadillas with homemade tortillas (using up maseca) and the giant bag of shredded cheese.

Slowly chugging along, used up some bananas from the freezer for banana bread, with a few more to make another batch this weekend to use them all up. Used up about half a small bag of breadcrumbs, still got a container with ends of bread that I’ve dried out for croutons and need to do soemthing with. Maybe freeze for now. Still quite a few pantry odds and ends that I will try tackle this coming week!

On Wednesday I finished the bag of chia seeds which we got as a freebie probably dec 2016. They expired 2017.

I feel pretty good about it.

I don’t care about my pantry. I’m not going anywhere, and it’s half empty anyway. No need to mainline rice and protein powder just to get through it faster.

My freezer, on the other hand. Not a lot of space. Three people share it. I want to make room for my next batch of chili. So I need to remember:

  • Cook the frozen chicken.
  • I now have sliced bread in there.
  • Give away more beef broth without losing the containers. I hate beef broth and I’m not going to eat it myself. Oh, I can message the person who gave me the bones!
  • Use the stir fry vegetables.
  • Eat the frozen blackberries or compost them.

I’m pretty sure it’s a sin to compost frozen blackberries.

I like em fresh! Maybe a visitor will want them.

Pie? Or turned into a sauce to put on oats or ice cream?

Cobbler.

Thanks but I’m not a baker and I don’t eat oatmeal. I’ll either bring them on a hike or give em to a friend.

(You can make cobbler with biscuits from a can).

Blackberries in smoothies?

1 can of condensed milk in my ‘make a double batch of butter chicken sauce to use up some of the overwhelming number of plum tomatoes I bought by mistake’ this afternoon. I will not share the best before date. But now I know not to buy condensed milk even if it is on an incredible sale.
