Into the dump/donation bin: a tank top which has gotten beyond “snug” to uncomfortable.
Christmas kringle fancying: Maroon gauze ribbon and silver cord. Determined by what I found, first in my office. The goal is to use up whatever craft supplies with the Christmas wrapping. Used up the maroon gauze ribbon, some of the silver cord and some of the gold trim I’d intended to use for wrapping the bread. I ran out of ribbon, as the maroon was wrapped around a roll of baby blue. Not a very Christmasy color…
I did this during Thanksgiving week (Nov. 22-26) and email is so much more pleasant now. No more over-the-top promotions, no more over-the-top political fundraising appeals, etc.
My dad does this too and some of the items he brings are questionable whether they’d go so sometimes they sit here for ages. At least I like to think it builds my BN karma for when I want something
Emptied the half full liquor bottles - to be fair they have been open for a min of 2 years and up. Bottles now in the garage to be returned for refund.
Started putting items in the car so I don’t forget them. Returning a bread maker (since I received my new pan and kneaded it’s whole again), will get $73 back. SO’s muscleshirts that have been waiting to be donated and sitting in laundry room for at least 6 weeks, can be donated tomorrow. Bottles and cans to be returned for refund. Filled a Christmas gift bag for our physiology team - treats from gift baskets I am not a fan of, including chocolate, and 2 bottles of red wine I was gifted in the last few weeks (I don’t drink red). Donation bag for food bank loaded in the car. Happy to get this all removed from house and garage.
Also, my neighbour was telling me about his church,S penny sale they run to raise money on new items. I have a bunch of new unused items received from work sitting in the basement that are now designated for him in the late spring.
I decluttered a grocery bag of barely used bras that had been sitting around for months. I donated them to an organization that reuses “lightly worn” bras. No more underwire!
When I lived in my house I could put stuff outside and it would be gone quickly. Now in a condo I take it to thrift stores. Just dropped off a few boxes a few days ago. For big items I put on Nextdoor and people come get it. I bought myself a new tv and gave away my old one. I had 20 people that wanted it. I gave it to a young couple with 2 little kids that were thrilled to have it.
I have a small box and a basket to take to the antique store today. Have a map to give a friend we’re probably meeting afterwards (a 1907 map of an island where his family had a summer house, oh forever). A bowl with a chip in the dump pile. A silverplate bowl priced and ready to go to the antique shop.
SIL gave us Yeti mugs for Christmas. Great. But I poured coffee down my shirt 3 times using it, so they’re now both officially DH’s . Apparently, my mouth just isn’t big enough or I don’t drink the right way, or … ?
We’re going to the dump on the way to the antique store. I’m sure I’ll find something or other to get rid of there, I almost always do! A Christmas ceramic bowl. Beautiful with red and green apples in it, but I don’t need it. It has a chip so it won’t sell. Hopefully someone will take it for free and glue the chip back on!
Have a book addressed to a former colleague, 1 book, 1 mailer, a sticky note and some tape… 5 Christmas cards, envelopes, 11 stamps, tape and stickers outta here!
I keep things which I love if they’re minorly chipped. Usually, the chips start on the edge and the food doesn’t go there, so we’ll use it until either it cracks or it chips in the middle. If it’s a mug, I just avoid drinking there.
We don’t own any glasses, I got tired of replacing them. We use mugs for everything.
Started a tally: what I have vs. what I want to have. Despite a lot of culling, I’m dismayed at the large quantity of unnecessary items I own: sheets, clothes, dishes, silverware are what I’ve tallied. I thought all of them had been culled to the bone, but there’s still way more than I want to keep, sigh.
