Have you said anything publicly? Maybe there are others in the same boat.
Sold 3 plants and 1 pair of jeans this week. Also added 2 baby pants to the donation pile.
Mr H agreed that once weāve sorted out the study, we should go through the boxes of baby and toddler clothes (currently stashed in the attic) and get rid of a heap of it. We may or may not even have another kid, and if we do, we can ask for hand-me-downs on Buy Nothing again anyway.
While reviewing the contents of our wardrobe I realised we probably have enough space to store our out-of-season stuff on a top shelf if we actually take out our pictures and hang them on our walls. Weāve been here nearly 18 months and havenāt hung a single picture. Time to get hanging over the weekend!
I feel personally attacked by the implication that my lovely framed pictures should be on my walls instead of cluttering up my precious closet space
Ha! Well I happen to know you actually do have some of your pictures on your walls. We have 0. It would be OK if we had some up and had chosen not to put up the rest, buuuuut thatās not the case. We need to agree on a frame colour for the household colour scheme as well so that Ponder can go buy frames for the prints we want to hang as well. Weāve only been meaning to get them frames for about 5 years or soā¦
Wizard and I have finished moving pretty much everything to the new place and thereās definitely some extra detritus still in there.
Our plan: Have a low-key Housewarming BBQ/Yard Sale de Wizard and Dia for some friends. Come over, have a burger, take one of our extra bottles of aloe gel/a book/some candles.
Wandering back through this reminded me that I was going to sort through old electronics cords in a box today. There shouldnāt be many left that I donāt need, but if I can get rid of a few, I can use the box for something else and stuff the remaining cords somewhere else.
In doing me no clothing item repeat challenge, Iāve added 2 tops to the donate pile. In preparing the guest room for my SIL to come visit, I have gotten rid of one set of bed linens. They were twin bed sized. We do not have a twin bed. Why one earth do I have these sheets?
I have gotten rid of some clothes, but 2 people failed to pick up the pile of sheets, and thereās still more clothes. Iām gonna drag clothing to a swap tomorrow and try to only bring home what I need.
We found 2 digital photo frames which will be re-gifted with toddler photos to great grandparents. Currently in the carport ready for council pickup in a month is a box of cables, tv stand, and 6 dining chairs. Hubs is pushing to get rid of our other 4 dining chairs and dining table as well since they donāt āspark joyā. Iām imagining a lot of picnics until we bother going furniture shoppingā¦
Omg I just realised our bedroom has suddenly crept over the line from āfull of procrastinated decisionsā to ārelaxing haven with a few pieces of storageā. Itās delightful.
Getting rid of my desk sparked a lot of joy. But the table depends on your level of picnic enjoyment? You could get floor pillows instead
This is pretty tempting. Also low Japanese floor tables always look really cozy and would look really odd in our dining area but also are very tempting.
Someone give me a kick in the ass to start listing some furniture and bigger items for sale on Marketplace or Nextdoor or similar?
Whatās stopping me is that I HATE letting strangers into my home even if Boyfriend is there. I live in an apartment and donāt have a garage or outdoor space or anything, and I donāt have a car to haul them to a public place. So people will have to come in to see these items and decide whether or not to buy them. I am DREADING this. Help me get over myself?
Any chance you have a friend who could use some cash? When I was unemployed, I listed a ton of stuff for my brother and kept a cut of what I sold for him. Maybe someone in your life could benefit from that role?
I know plenty of people who could use some cash - but Iām not sure how weād get the furniture out of my place and to theirs so they could show it and sell it. Pretty much everyone I know doesnāt have a car either, or else theyāve got a really small car that certainly would not hold, like, the large dresser that Iād really like to unload.
I think Iām just going to have to suck it up. I donāt know, maybe I could make Boyfriend take point on this. Except, he doesnāt feel the need to declutter at all so that might be a hard sell!
My house has been tidy for two days and Iām finding it very disconcerting. Tidy, but also gross. We have cleaners come for the first time on Friday and Iām definitely counting down the sleeps like a kid excited for Christmas!
I think Iāve been living in a cluttered space for about 8 years? Just like most decluttering books say, it was mostly emotions holding us back. Iām enjoying the space a lot! I have free mental energy and time and I donāt know what to do with it just yet.
