I returned a recently purchased outfit that just wasn’t doing it for me. It was an objectively fantastic matching set that looked incredible on, but every time I went to wear it something held me back.
Returning it before the receipt ran out meant I won’t be decluttering it in the future when I dig through my closet and find this treasure that never got worn.
The two big windows and one small window have been cleared so that the guy can come and measure today in about an hour. Of course, during this I found things to give away/cull. There are 2 boxes for the bookstore in the van and a box is being built for my friend who does jigsaw puzzles. Also, papers in the new cull pile, recycling, etc.
Two boxes of books to the bookstore. One box of “flea market merch” to the Hospice Thrift shop. I bought 2 dog bowls (prefer them for plant saucers, they’re sturdier and deeper) and a cookbook.
The music cabinet that was at the back wall of the attic went to the dump today. Hopefully, someone will take it and use it before it gets trashed!
Went back in there to work in the newly cleared space. Under a bench, atop another box was 2 small boxes I didn’t recognize. Addressed to our old address in FL, comics. Had NEVER been opened. They’re going to the comic book store, tomorrow. But honestly? We’ve stored them since 1990 when they were mailed, and then moved them from FL to New England.
Working on my 2025 in 2025 challenge, a little bit at a time. A quick win today was cleaning out gift bags, old bows, tissue paper. I purchased a matching wrap set 2 years ago which I broke down and put it into my wrap storage container. I didn’t count each individual thing (I counted bunches of tissue paper as singles) and added 45 items to leaving the house. I feel that I can get rid of even more gift bags, I mean, how many do I REALLY need in the house? As we do less gifting each year there is a reduced necessity, and one thing that we use every year are reusable boxes.
Tackling one small thing per day is helping with this challenge even if it is only a few things a day (for example, denture cleaner container, used tooth brush in travel case, foot scrubber left the house yesterday).
I’m quite happy with the state of “stuff” in my house. Today I went through my desk, closets and kitchen. I tossed some things, organized other things, and have stuff that I will donate tomorrow. I will make another pass through everything over the winter including Christmas decorations in case I missed anything, but for now it feels good.
I gave away some old Halloween costumes on Buy Nothing! And didn’t miss the season! I am also finding takers for the homemade aprons I made for my boys many years ago. I worked hard on them and they’re cute, so it feels good for someone to want them AND for them not to be in my house anymore!
decided to declutter two pairs of jeans I don’t like rather than wearing them out until they are unusable. I don’t need to penalize myself for making incorrect purchases years ago.
threw out expired sunscreen that had lost the desired texture
decided to get rid of wine glasses, just need to figure out the best way. obviously can’t just put them into the donation box at the thrift store
I decluttered and organized my linen and medicine cabinets. Skincare stuff is more accessible and face masks should get used more frequently now that I can see them. I found Tylenol that expired in 2022.
TY everyone who’s been posting. Makes me feel not so alone! I have a new stack (50?) of comics to go to the comic store. I have about 75 to go to the antique store. I will pull the unsold ones from there. I have also been asked to please sell 3 chalk ware figural MCM lamps. Not my style, but so what? Hopefully, they sell. If they don’t, I"m pretty sure I can convince my neighbor to consign them and I know where to go… (that may or may not work)
I’m so overwhelmed by the boxes. Maybe if we move the big bookcase tomorrow, it will be better because then we have access to the closet and can put that clothing away
