I’m so sorry if my comment was offensive. I come from a hoarded house where my mom had lots of empty boxes and newspapers and bags around and also lots of dust and dirt.

Then my foster parents also became hoarders as they aged. They just couldn’t part with anything that had a memory attached to it.

So I’ve tried to dig in and help over the years but it was a completely different job. That’s why I said in the beginning that it was hard to respond thoughtfully without understanding what you have. Again, please accept my apology if it came across the wrong way.

And I really like Plainjane’s idea of a spreadsheet and photos to keep track.

You have done a lot and an awesome job! And I don’t think any of us think it is garbage. I was more so reinforcing your dumpster suggestion because I KNOW you’ve been working hard and I truly do think it’s okay to sometimes take the easy way out. But if it was just an expression and not a true desire then just a misunderstanding!

So glad that others have been able to see the progress you’ve made and I love the idea of photos - maybe weekly photos of each room?

Would it help to reread your journal and remember all that you’ve done just in the time you’ve journaled here?

Thank you all! I will write more. I had written more, then deleted it. So, I need to think things through a bit!

Since moving to this house 5 years ago I have gotten rid of almost every single book. (Janky hands means I can’t use paper books, only digital)

I’m moving again and want to bring fewer things. If I report here maybe I’ll slim down my possessions? Hopefully!

Last week I went through one of the boxes of tools and weeded out a few things that were multiples. How many adjustable wrenches does a fine lady need? (Three, one of each size. Down from five)
And the wood filler was dried out so trash.
And I have a lotttttttt of cans of paint but 1/3 of them were empty or dried out so went to the depot. I’ll see how much I use up in the moving process then get rid of most of the rest.

What are you guys’ invisible hoards that you don’t think about until you notice them and then are confronted with ugly truths about the amount of stuff you have?

cool rocks. Except I hoard them in boxes rather than keep them on display

‘good enough for yardwork/diy’ clothing (we don’t need 5 pairs of painting jeans)

‘special occasion’ clothing (we don’t need 5 wedding/funeral outfits, esp if 4.5 of them are the wrong size right now)

paint cans for sure

odds and sods that are displayed on flat surfaces

extra computers that need to have their hard drives wiped before we feel comfortable moving them along, extra computer peripherals that need converters now.

Cords. So, so many cords and none of them work.

Clothes, which is weird since I have 5 outfits I wear. But babies and pregnancy and life stages and working and not working has made for quite a few pieces of clothes floating about still- often in neatly labeled bins so they don’t FEEL like that much until I think about all that, and then add all the hand me down kids clothes I’m storing and :exploding_head:

Paper. A million pieces of paper.

Fabric and yarn. Its all spread out so i ignore it and when i try to corral it, it’s overwhelming.

Children’s clothes. I kept almost everything Duckling has grown out of… And that Pumpkin has now grown out of…

Same, definitely cords, mostly USB cords. Every now and then I go through them and toss a bunch but they must have had little cord babies in the mean time because there always seem to be more

I’m overflowing with organizers and bins that fit my last apartment but not this house. Was hoarding them until I got fully unpacked here and set up the basement; 90% there now so I’m ready to let some of them go now.

A nice family came to pick up 10 moving boxes and showed up on a long tail cargo bike. We managed to strap them around their young son for a nice windproof fort.

Anything put in a place I don’t usually check, some drawers, back of cabinet, etc.

If it’s not out or frequently used, I don’t see it.

Kitchen shit. SO much kitchen shit

Also old broken laptops and cables for things I no longer own

Kind of the same here. Our bedroom has a wall of built-in dressers - 7 to be exact. And they are extra deep. About half are filled with old car magazines and CD’s. Not sure what I will do with that stuff when we move. It’s certainly not being used.

I listed my spare blender. Keeping my spare pressure cooker for the apocalypse.

I think ill fitting and worn out clothes I won’t wear. Trying to build a wardrobe I will wear instead.

Is anyone interested in decluttering together on FaceTme or on the phone? Zoom would work too if you know how to do that (I’ve never started a meeting on that). Does anyone want to meet on Friday morning or Saturday?

…I would be interested in Friday. I could do Zoom, or the forum Discord.
