– I have PTO that will get me through a few weeks. My state doesn’t say that makes me ineligible, just that PTO usually pays more.

My state would defer benefits until after PTO paid out. I think you could still apply though…
Some people are inconsiderate.
I often get out of the way if it’s just me walking. But sometimes I end up standing in the road with my 3 year-old because the person walking the other way can’t be bothered. I guess I am assuming some things here but look at how little this kid is, you kinda seem like an asshole.

I was surprised this wasn’t stated! I didn’t dig very deep after realizing that the application portal was closed at 8 p.m. I’ll read more and figure out the whole process tomorrow when I’m at a computer at work, but it kinda seems like my state has set this up either separate or in addition to what they normally do – they seem a little better prepared than from what I’m hearing from people here and elsewhere - like they have a very specific section for covid-19 unemployment related issues.

From my state’s COVID unemployment page, which they have updated based on their current knowledge of the new law. They have specific help sections for self-employed workers and note they are still waiting for clarification from DOJ on implementing the law but encourage everyone who is affected to apply.
This is our third week of shelter in place. I need to take Kiddo to two medical appointments today, I’m taking wipes and hand sanitizer and I’m planning on staying in the car till we can go directly to the room just to avoid Kiddo inevitably touching something in the waiting room. Yet still part of my brain goes “Well while we’re in that part of town we should swing by the store to pick up more milk.” NO. No brain! One, not with Kiddo in tow, two, that’s what Instacart is for, three, not at the beginning of the month (WIC people might need it more than we do), and four, we’re not even out of milk! We just got more on Sunday!
It’s gonna be a long few months.
Today SirB is going out for groceries for the first time in a couple weeks. What finally tipped us was that I ran out of stuff to put in my coffee. I would have sucked it up and kept going, but I think he’s jonesing for some fresh produce, so there he goes. Debating between him wearing his work respirator (much better protection for him, worse for other people, scary looking, way more comfortable) versus a loop mask (less scary, could lead to people being mad he has medical supplies (even though the hospitals here won’t take open boxes and I only have a few left over from buying “baby in flu season“ prep items), protects other people more than protecting him). Hoping we can get enough stuff to comfortably avoid going for another 2 weeks minimum.

Boyfriend went to Jewel at 7 a.m. - rushed in, grabbed a bunch of meat and some coffee for me, rushed out. Despite it being the first of the month (when all the SNAP recipients shop), he said it was fairly empty and he was able to use self checkout and sanitize himself afterward. He was home much sooner than expected. (Note, there were no senior/at risk hours this morning, we were not infringing on anyone.)
I so SO wish we could get delivery. There are absolutely no slots open, ever. Like, literally, ever. And I’m still hearing about people who scheduled their delivery a week out or more and then RIGHT before it’s due to be delivered they get the cancellation notice.
I’m considering signing up for Imperfect Produce again. I thought it was overpriced so cancelled it like 2 years ago. The truck came down my street the other day and I went hmmmmm. Fresh produce delivered. That sound pretty good. I think we’re down to some greens and 1 pepper and 2 apples. Do any of you guys use it? I wonder if it has improved in the past couple years and/or whether they have anything in stock ever?
I have heard mostly bad/mixed things about Imperfect Produce. No idea what if’s like in this environment.
Why would his work respirator be worse for other people? If I was more at risk I’d consider wearing my own respirator but haven’t felt the need or looked up whether the specific type I have would actually be effective.
It doesn’t filter air going out, it’s a unidirectional membrane system apparently. Prevents high resistance to exhaling so it’s more comfortable to breathe in.
Eta it’s asbestos rated, so super high resistance if it was a simple filter system.
Yeah, it’s just… is it better to have shitty produce than no produce at all? I didn’t think it was awful, but I felt it wasn’t a great value for the money. There is value, however, in fruit and veg showing up at my door though, in these times.
We’re a few months out from being able to harvest anything edible. I did sow some greens seeds in pots but they’ve not sprouted yet- likely too cold still, and my heat mat is warming all the tomato and basil seedlings so there’s no more room on that.

The East/west opinion divide on masks has always interested me abstractly. Now it’s a very timely question.
I think once they aren’t in such short supply I was already thinking of starting to do this when leaving the house under the weather. And maybe switching appointments I normally would have kept in person to virtual since the virtual habits would already be in place
My parents gave me some particle/dust masks they had sitting in the basement. Based on all the new articles, it’s better than nothing? I suppose I’ll wear one to the grocery store the next time I go.

Silver lining of this shitshow: activism is buying take out from tiny local places. Like this delicious shwarma that i just spilled all over my shirt.
I gotta say, the fact that buying local donuts + random shit from artists on etsy is the responsible thing to do if you have the money is a huge silver lining.
