Covid-19 discussion

Our approach to a “pod” the first time was yesterday- my brother, his fiancée, and her sister have been strictly isolating except grocery trips and being very careful then. We met up at a park and stayed 6’ away and took a nice walk and chat.

Ours would be a genuine pod - no one going in to work, no one socializing in person outside the group - full isolation except for a weekly grocery run. I feel like the grocery run alone is sketchy tho.

Still, having one person from your pod do groceries for all of you makes a difference!

We were talking about doing that anyways, actually.

The idea with forming a pod is that none of you can bring the virus in from outside sources (work, errands outside of having to get groceries when essential) and no-one can take the virus outside of the pod (by going to work, errands… etc). So yeah, you can hang out with your podmates and go to work, but your risk of spreading the virus to your podmates and from your podmates to the rest of your community increases. Better than not cutting down on social interactions, work, errands at all? Absolutely, yes. But not as good as isolating fully, with a pod. Everyone has to figure out for themselves what they can live with.

Hard to go without completely though!

I should add, I really mean it when I say everyone has to figure out what they can live with. People here talk about santising groceries: I can’t go to that level without significant mental health impact, so I’m not doing it. I’m accepting that risk.

Stock up on condoms if you use them!

And Malaysia makes durian-flavored condoms?? :face_vomiting:

There’s gonna be a baby boom for sure…

I told friends WEEKS ago to stock up on condoms! I knew it!

I remember you mentioning it and I grabbed an extra box because of it

Turns out global pandemics exacerbate my pelvic floor issues though so no one wins here…

I’m assuming stress exacerbates that, like it does everything else?

Yep. It seems I hold my stress in my teeny neck muscles and pelvic floor

No possibility of pod here. Alchemist is in an essential, non-WFH position. I’m also choosing to still grocery shop in person so that the grocery delivery and pickup services aren’t overwhelmed with demand so hopefully higher risk people get the benefit.

Also, like @HaH there are lines I can’t cross without severe mental health detriment.

OK, I’m 100% done with our Prime Minister. The man out of his depth.
From the one press conference we have:
Stay home… Or people will die.

Unless you’re buying puzzles…

So the panic buying is not on and needs to stop unless we are panic buying jigsaw puzzles? Ok.

Tonight’s announcement sucks on a personal level because it means almost certainly I will be alone from this point on at my prenatal care appointments.

I hope we aren’t already seeing certain types of Christians making horrible statements about the hidden meaning of covid-19 or how it somehow represents God’s judgment. I’ll put the rest of this behind a spoiler because I know many here have no interest in things like this and in fact have had traumatic experiences from religion but in case anyone feels like reading what I think is the only properly Christian response to suffering I felt like sharing a piece:

Summary

A reminder that something like this piece is, in my mind, the only true Christian response to evil and suffering. The book this article birthed called “The Doors of the Sea” is even better. Rereading it today.

I can delete if people would prefer, I just thought it might be a good thing to send to any Christian friends or family making bullshit statements around this

Data.
Incomplete because of different testing rates in different places, but better than nothing.
