I ordered the free tests. Thought I was getting 8. Got 16. :woman_shrugging:

Nope. Pregnancy over 40 and gestational diabetes don’t count and neither does asthma or working with the public 5 days a week. But you see why I want one!

That’s insane that you don’t qualify. I would get it anyway.

I’d just tell them you qualify. Usually they don’t ask why.

FDA is livestreaming their meeting about the 6 months to 5 years vaccine. It’s been going on for five hours already from the looks of it. As is the norm in our times, everyone is in little boxes and several of them are definitely calling in from home.

And a liveblog if you’d prefer to read. Tracking an FDA advisory panel meeting on Covid vaccines in children

They approved Moderna!

Small correction: they unanimously recommended that Moderna be approved. The FDA will meet in a few days to officially approve it.

But a huge milestone nonetheless!!

If they don’t follow the committee’s recommendation I will stage a coup.

Interesting review and recommendation for Moderna over Pfizer: FDA meeting for <5 COVID vaccine: Q&A - by Katelyn Jetelina

aaaaahhhhhhhhhh

I also intend to get Moderna for my toddler, for the same reasons she mentions. Plus the fact that I am furious at Pfizer for underdosing and leaving us unprotected for like 8 months longer than we hoped. I’ll only get Pfizer if it’s our only choice.

Tired and not totally finding the information on my own:

  • Why was the booster trial for 5-11 year olds by pfizer only 140 kids?
  • How many kids are in the Moderna and Pfizer 6m-5y trials?

Just a guess here, but I assume that that’s the smallest number that they needed in order to get the sample size needed to run the analysis they needed- Which, since it was about measured immune response and not actual clinical response to viral infections, requires a far lower number of subjects. I assume it’s an ethics issue that you can’t test on more children absolutely necessary to prove your point?

Just for fun, Florida didn’t preorder any of these vaccines.

I don’t even have a kiddo and I am seething with rage

Is this one of the days I have to pretend that Florida doesn’t exist and you really live somewhere south of Atlanta?

Technically it is true that I live somewhere south of Atlanta.

Ok. I have a “vaccine hesitant” friend who is suspicious of such a small trial size and isnt convinced by the results, who is encouraging suspicion in other friends and I was sent to hopefully say.there was more data somewhere. Will do this in the morning because im so tired my typing is nonsense now.
