Covid-19 discussion

That makes a lot of sense! Thank you.

I have also read to switch it up, as, although they are both effective, they are slightly different so this may provide broader coverage.

I got Moderna for first 2 + booster, so will get Pfizer for 2nd booster, regardless of the relative strength. Have not gotten it yet, possibly mid may.

I just want the record to reflect that I did that via voice to text. :joy::joy::joy:

my doc also told me to switch it up. i got moderna for my first 2 doses and pfizer for my booster and had a much stronger reaction to the booster than to either of the first two doses.

Moderna if you have the option, and go ahead and get your shingles shot at the same time. I did that, and was quite happy to only feel bad once. Didn’t feel any worse than I did from the earlier Covid shots. Only thing is, don’t make the mistake I did and have them in both arms. Get both of them in one arm so only one hurts and you have a side you can sleep on.

My doctor actually told me specifically NOT to get both at the same time. I know someone who did and she ended up in bed for several days.

Anyway, Moderna booster scheduled for tomorrow after work. We have to drive a bit to get it rather than walking to the Walgreens nearest us but that’s ok. Yippeeeee.

I don’t know if I should be happy that there were TONS of open appointments today and tomorrow? (We opted for tomorrow because I always feel like shit the next day and tomorrow morning I have to run an important meeting and would like to not feel like shit for that.)

Make sure your insurance will cover the shingles vax - I think mine only will if you are over a certain age.

I am over that Certain Age

:+1::grin:

FWIW, you should also have a Tdap booster (Dtap? the one for adults, not the initial children series) if you haven’t ever had one, and your insurance likely covers. If you have had that booster but it has been over 10 years since you’ve had a tetanus booster, you can just get the tetanus booster. Tetanus lives in soil, and all gardeners should be up to date, 10 years (I believe) is the currently recommended interval if you haven’t had an incident where you needed one because of like a rusty nail or whatever.

I don’t need one for another couple years due to a Cat Bite Incident.

Considering that all 3 Pfizer shots put me in bed for 4 days not looking forward to Moderna this fall.

It’s just so much.

Wow. I would not believe this if I hadn’t lived through it.

I remember when these kinds of numbers were projected in March 2020, and it seemed like an unfathomable, pie-in-the-sky, algorithm quirk. Can’t believe we’re here, and how little people seem to care.

I think people care but can’t stay home or stay on high alert for years at a time. It takes too big a toll on mental health and for some has economic consequences. I lost a good friend a few months before the vaccines were available. It’s incredibly sad but life does go on.

I saw this today and had a visceral NOPE reaction to the “avoiding all social contact” directive.

Just, NOPE. Cannot. I will wear my mask indoors and not take it off to eat or drink, and stick to outdoor dining/drinks, and avoid big crowds, and not get on a plane, and go get my booster. But I cannot isolate myself in my home any more like I did in Chicago. Just straight up CANNOT.

I don’t want covid but I just don’t think I can mentally go back to locking myself down after doing so for the better part of 2 years.

Oh, I definitely agree that people can’t stay home or on high alert for years on end!

I think there is a balance somewhere in the middle between intense lockdowns and other extreme restrictions, and hurrying to move on as if nothing happened/is still happening. I personally don’t think we, on a community level, have found that balance.

Anyone have an O2 monitor they really like?

For any fellow Australians that might be affected ( :crossed_fingers: none of us!) - in case you weren’t aware - telephone voting will be available on Thursday, Friday and Saturday if you are in covid iso.
Looks like the AEC are still finalising details - I looked just now and couldn’t find any info on their website.

OMG - is this how a civilized society does it? I can’t imagine the mind blowing craziness that would ensue if we tried to do that in the US :joy:
