Florida limits COVID data to every 2 weeks, state says via meme

This is not The Onion. They actually did this. :upside_down_face:

The state did not announce the new policy in any traditional fashion, such as issuing a press release or an official statement via its social media accounts.

Instead, Florida Department of Health spokesperson Jeremy Redfern made the announcement at 4:31 p.m. Friday using his personal Twitter account. The tweet included a popular meme featuring World Wrestling Entertainment CEO Vince McMahon reacting to the news.

The Florida Department of Health then retweeted Redfern’s announcement at 7:49 p.m., adding a cat meme and noting that it’s “no longer season 1 of the pandemic.”

In hindsight it was a huge oversight of the founders of this country to not include “If states get up to shenanigans, they get demoted back to territory status and have to sit there in probation till they can get their shit together”. I never imagined this thread and the meme thread would actually cross over at any point. :woman_facepalming:

Holy shit. I saw that we were moving to biweekly reports, but not that it was announced like this.

What the actual fuck, Florida?

What the fuuuuck.

I seriously do not like this timeline.

I feel like Florida is in some weird parallel universe that doesn’t follow the rules of this world.

I’m willing to bet money that they considered exactly when the biweekly update would occur relative to the November election.

Anyone hear any recent news on little kid vaccines? Kind of feels like they’re just letting them all wait until they turn 5 at this point…

I think they haven’t figured out an effective dose for younger ones, where the benefits outweigh the risks.

This seems like a perfectly reasonable compromise. It’s not like new kids are born everyday or something. /S

I wonder if the 5-11 vaccine having such low effectiveness at preventing infection (as opposed to serious illness, which it does do) is part of the holdup. Apparently the kids’ vaccine provides almost 0 protection against mildly symptomatic infection… which explains LOT about January in my FB feed…

Moderna is supposedly submitting their data “imminently”, or at least that’s what they said in an investor meeting last week. The CDC has started a marketing campaign highlighting the high hospitalization rate among under 5s during omicron which some people thinks means they’re gearing up for a vaccine release that prevents hospitalization but not illness. So, basically all rumor right now.

Yes but Moderna split out 2-5 year olds so I’m pretty sure that’s all their submitting. Good in one sense because if Pfizer had done that we might have a vaccine for the littles by now. Bad for parents waiting on the younger set. We’re in the Moderna trial and haven’t gotten a second dose yet so I’m pretty confident they’re not submitting data for the youngest age group.

Hmm. I need both categories, but I’ll take whatever they’ll give me. The baby is still breastfeeding, so that’s (hopefully) something at least.

Ok so my older kid will just get the 5+ year old vaccine, my toddler will have to wait. Y. A. Y…

Here they say submitting for 6 months-5 years Transcript : Moderna, Inc. Presents at Barclays Global Healthcare Conference 2022, Mar-15-2022 01:30 PM | MarketScreener

This is an investor meeting, so not like an official press release or anything, but this is the latest unofficial word. Maybe they are running extra kids to CYA in case the FDA asks for more data again?

Oh no! Hoping it’s mild for you. My mum and her partner caught it last week and she said it was a bad cold for her despite having asthma/ some lung issues so fingers crossed it’s even easier for you.
