Covid-19 discussion

They wanted to buy one? But it was absolutely an aggressive jerk move because there’s a newsagents directly opposite (like, 5 m away) and they took the guy’s personal one and mentioned “how nice all those bikes and scooters were” in a particular tone of threat.

Didn’t like being there with my little kids but OTOH I was glad we were there and dude wasn’t dealing with them on his own.

They made him give them his own personal charger?

Yeah, well he didn’t have any for sale… They said they’d “drop it back in an hour” but it was a fucking weird way of getting their phone charged…

Got my booster scheduled at CVS for later this week. :tada: Their online system was updated with the new 3-month guidance for immunocompromised people, and let me schedule an appointment without issue.

So, I’m reading up on Evusheld, which was give emergency use authorization by the FDA in late 2021:

excerpt

In December, the Food and Drug Administration authorized Evusheld, a monoclonal antibody combination from the drug company AstraZeneca that’s designed to give patients like Cheung protection. For those who don’t respond well to vaccines, Evusheld shots put COVID-fighting proteins directly into their bodies.

Analysis by AstraZeneca — completed last year — showed that the drug reduced the risk of getting COVID-19 by 77% and that the protection from a single two-shot treatment lasted for at least six months. Early data suggests it may work less well against the omicron variant of the coronavirus, but it is still expected to offer some protection.

There’s also this site for finding which hospitals have it in stock: Evusheld Providers

I’m trying to decide if I should message my rheumatologist about this. I’m “moderately” immunocompromised, and I did test positive for antibodies after getting my first shot. So maybe it’s not necessary? But otoh I want maximum protection and several hospitals in my area have ample supplies in stock according to the above link.

Not that it really matters that much, but I ordered the “4 free home tests” from the USPS site ONE MONTH AGO and I haven’t heard peep so I checked the order number:

Too bad for me if I actually needed them. I ordered them at 8:15am the day after the site/form/request link/whatever went live. So thanks for nothing, The Government.

Aw, ‘cmon fora. Some parts of The Government have woken up 702 consecutive days in a row, put their pants on, and walked out the door to in order to keep civilization going. Like the people who’ve been faithfully delivering the mail,

Hello government! What a nice dog you have!

You misunderstand. I have nothing against government employees and think most have done an admirable job. I myself was in fact a government employee for some years. “Government” does not equal people, at least, in most cases.

Thank you, it’s helpful to have an article on this handy when talking to some people.
