Covid-19 discussion

Yeah I’m thinking I should donate the N95 masks I found the other day. Do I just go to the ER? Umm not the place I want to be in this outbreak. How do I realistically do that?

Is there a lobby for surgery/clinic/admin? I would go there.

The kennel disinfectant jug I bought from Amazon like 13 days ago has been sent back to the warehouse, per the email I received today. Whyyyy?
All I’ve got is my lightly diluted 60% rubbing alcohol (and I guess some vinegar too?). Two stores near me are out of all disinfectants and bleach and I’m just not stopping at a thrird store with people coughing inside and all jammed up in lines. Guh.

I guess this belonged in tiny complaints, but it’s COVID-19 specific.

Edited to add: bought a jug of concentrated Barbicide and actually paid for the quicker shipping. We’ll see. I’m not trying to hoard, I’m just trying to get like one thing of disinfectant. Lordt.

Our county released info on how to donate, it’s a lot of fire departments and then the corrections facility here.

Maybe contact your equivalent agencies?

In my neighborhood FB groups there were several ER nurses offering to do porch pickups of masks.

Welcome to the panic club. Please stand a good 15 feet away from all other members until 14 days have elapsed. :grimacing:

:disappointed_relieved: But in all seriousness. Yeah dude. Yeah.

I actually was intentionally seeking out stuff that would put the health panic in me, because I was embroiled in the economic effects and was having trouble mentally “grasping” what was going on from the health side. I need a little fear I guess.

2 friends in the UK have COVID19 currently, and while they are both young, one has asthma…

If you feel like you need more first hand accounts (or second hand/what healthcare providers are seeing) let me know. For better or worse, I’m seeing a LOT of those now. :disappointed_relieved:

Talked to Kid-2 (Northern Italy) today. He said Italian hospitals are warning that the virus is causing miscarriages and stillbirths, so since his commander refuses to let people stop working, he is getting ready to take all of his leave right now, which he had been planning on adding to his 3 weeks paternity leave in October, which would have given him 2 months.

I haven’t heard anything about that type of outcome, but he’s intelligent and I’m not about to second guess him. But now I’m terrified of a second wave coming in the fall, and him having to go back to work after 3 weeks, in Italy, with a newborn.

Is there a way for him to report this commander?

The commander has apparently already had contentious words with both the Prime Minister of Italy and [some other American military person who outranks him], to no avail.

The fabric masks I’m making are for use in a veterinary clinic so that way their supplies can go towards actual need. There’s some folks in our community sewing them up for the local hospital, but we have no indication that this is wanted.

I feel you, being on the fence about the whole thing myself. Covid-19 is such teeny particles that it seems impossible that the quilting cotton most are using to make them is going to do much of anything for true frontline workers

Neat data visualization showing the spread of the pandemic.

So it looks like Michigan will do shelter in place today. I saw a local builder just now who said “well, she’s (the governor) going to have to come find me because I’ve got stuff to do”. Ugh

Like half of my Facebook feed this morning is friends sharing others’ accounts of how sick they are from coronavirus and how painful it is. I know they are doing it so that people take this seriously, I too am angry about the photos of Californians crowding their beaches, but now I’ve convinced myself that I’m going to get sick and die no matter how careful I am.

A friend and I were talking about this over the weekend, how we feel like we can be so ultra careful and stay away from people and disinfect everything as best as we can with what we have (I’m told still no wipes or disinfectant anywhere near me in the city) but it’s going to come for us anyway.

So what can you do TODAY to make it the best day possible?

Not trying to minimize the anxiety – I know it is real, and I know it must be stressful trying to work out a new work from home routine with kitties crawling all over you. But you are home and not standing in the cold waiting for the El. What is within your circle of control right at this minute? What do you want/need? What can you give yourself? It’s ok if that is an entire bar of chocolate and an hour or so of funny cat videos.

And… 3 weeks. I’ve never been off work for more than a week for vacation. I can’t work from home. I don’t think I have enough projects to fill 10 additional hours a day for that long.
