Oh, yeah - one of my DD’s got a booster because she had J&J initially, and youngest dd got it because she works in a hospital, though not with patients.
Is it? I couldn’t find that anywhere.
Yeah I’m mainly trying to figure out if we should go get them. We’re in Washington state technically. We were both fully vaxxed in Feb (early for me, late for husband). Toddler is too young to be vaxxed. I no longer work so I’m not under that qualifying category anymore. Husband counted the first time but isn’t really high risk. I suppose he might qualify by BMI? Not sure. I’m TTC but like… very infertile lol. So qualifying by pregnancy isn’t currently accurate for me.
Ramble ramble.
Wouldn’t your husband qualify due to site visits for his job? I’d think it’s reasonable to get him boosted for that reason alone if you want to.
I decided to get my booster 2 weeks ago because I’m working in person at a university. We do require vaccination for the students, but not the faculty or staff (negative thanks to the union, who I usually fully support), and there’s just so many people. Plus I take public transit every day. I didn’t want to risk bringing something back to my parents at Thanksgiving, which I am very excited to attend this year.
I also figure it can’t hurt me to get the booster, and holding off isn’t going to help with distribution in other places that need first doses when the US has already secured these booster doses for its residents.
Okay, so digging into it. SirB might qualify for work, but definitely qualifies by BMI, so we’ll have him get his. I do not qualify, but it sounds like I could easily get one if I wanted to. So now I have to think about morals. WHINE.
Factors in favor:
My mom is actively immune suppressed and a cancer survivor.
Latte is too young to be vaccinated.
Factors against:
I don’t qualify under state or local guidance.
In favor: we don’t want you to get COVID. What would it mean for your family if you did?
Probably not much? Statistically I’m really well protected from serious illness, as are Latte and SirB. My mom is vulnerable BUT she got a booster last month, as did my dad and in laws. If I got moderately sick (feeling like shit but at home), it would suck but SirB can easily shift work around and accommodate. Latte getting sick terrifies me but statistically she’s pretty low risk. I dunno. By all measures I’m not like, a lynchpin person right now. The world would limp by if I was down and out for a week. Things would get much sketchier if I had long Covid, though. And of all scenarios, that’s what scares me the most. Acute illness is less of a fear than a chronic presentation for me, as I think it is for most people?
I would look at appointment availability. If there’s lots of appointments then the supply is good where you are and I won’t feel bad about getting the booster.
I have a chronic illness. It fucking sucks. Would have happily stolen someone’s booster spot if it had decreased my chances of having the chronic illness.
Jay walking gives me anxiety when I can see the rationale for rules, I hate breaking them. Moral grey areas are rough.
Are people who qualify having a hard time finding vaccine slots?
There are 20+ slots available today at every pharmacy in my area, so here, you wouldn’t be taking anyone’s shot if you went and got one. What’s it like by you?
So it looks like via the CVS website, they pull up locations near my per day, and it’s usually like 10-15 locations near me with a slot most days- but it’s just a few for any given location on any given day. My nearby pharmacy we did our flu shots at only have 1 most days this week, some days none. But I also know they only do two slots for any vaccination per hour, because we had issues with them for the flu shot
So… I dunno? There’s not none, but it’s nothing like 20 per site.
Is there a better way to search with a broader net? I never had to do this with my first shots since it was through my employer.
A discussion pivot as well- is anyone else having a hard time conceptualizing life post pandemic? So much for us has changed during the pandemic (4 month old at the start, 2 year old now. New city. Bought a house. New job for Husband. I quit my job. Etc). A recent NYT email had me thinking… what we would be doing differently if it was post pandemic? What would we change? And my brain is having a hard time even answering that.
what I’ve come up with so far
Start hosting some get togethers again. Book club, maybe do a local OMD meet up.
SirB would go to BJJ again.
I might do yoga a couple times a week?
Gymnastics or swim lessons for latte. Library story time once that starts again.
Would we travel at all? Start any child care for Latte? What would life look like?!
I’d actually get a gym membership.
Probably.
Oh, yeah. It’s been long enough that I think everyone’s paradigm has shifted. I don’t have any idea.I guess I’d go inside the library for stuff?
Waves hand frantically
February 2020 we had just enrolled Kiddo in private OT and I was looking into some sort of martial arts program. I don’t know when we’ll feel comfortable doing that stuff since it’s all indoors.
Also I really want a beach vacation. I might just book something for next summer now and make sure the cancellation policy is good. Planning more than two or three months out still feels like such a gamble and numbers game, but if I wait everything will be booked up.
I was sure I saw it somewhere, like recommended by the CDC, but I can’t find it now!
I guess we’re doing everything now that we want to do - I’m going into stores and into the library. I’m going to knitting in the library. I’m going to church, indoors. Dh and I are going to tai chi, indoors.
The little boy is going to school and swim class and piano lessons.
I guess at some point we’ll feel comfortable having people over for dinner, so I guess that will be a milestone.
I don’t value eating in restaurants, so it’s easy for me to write that off forever, but the kids have gone out a few times.
what do we think about getting a moderna booster and a flu shot at the same time? has anyone done it and lived to tell the tale?
historically i have had a very mild reaction to flu shots. with my vaccine, i felt a bit tired and slightly shitty for 4-5 days.
I did! I live to tell the tale! Lol. It was totally fine, I just had a sore arm for like 12 hours. But… I didn’t have too much reaction when I got my first two either. I think I read it’s a half dose, so maybe that means fewer side effects? My boss did it too, and just felt a little yucky for a day.
