Covid-19 discussion

Well, a friend’s roomie (roomie is a grocery worker) may have COVID, as she feels sick and her sense of smell is starting to go.

We saw the friend on Saturday for a (masked, distanced) hike. Friend is still feeling okay and doesn’t really hang with her roomies, so crossing fingers that she doesn’t get it and that we weren’t exposed, either. For now, am putting us on personal quarantine and will get us tested once a week or so passes.

This is the closest we’ve come to known possible exposure so far.

Yesterday, Chicago Public Schools teachers who are supposed to return to in-person but don’t feel safe doing so, had their Google Classroom access cut off so they can no longer teach remotely.
I’m angry.

This is gonna be the one time in my life that medical fatphobia is going to benefit me, I think – I should be able to get vaccinated before genpop.

Chicago was also in the news last summer for trying to force librarians back to work. I don’t know what the answer is.

Dollar General is offering four hours of pay to employees who get a Covid vaccine and paid time off for any who have adverse reactions.

I wish someone would tell me where I am in priority as someone on an immunosuppressant, but otherwise healthy and young. >< For the love of all things, I would be jazzed if being on this complicated and expensive drug actually benefitted me.*

*besides the obvious bit where it works

Fuck. Fuck fuck fucking fuck. Is there a support resource online anywhere for finding out your in-laws are definitely anti vaxers and your spouse is essentially estranged now? I’ll be over here putting on a good face for the kid through bedtime.

Oh fuck.
It’s not quite what we have going on, but happy to be a listening ear either here or discord or through texting.
I’m so sorry for all of you.

Is anybody else seeing grocery shortages again? I’m suddenly having trouble getting meat, beans, or canned soup. A lot of other weird things, too – no chocolate ice cream, for example. But the staples worry me more. Oh, and frozen vegetables.

Not yet, but we’re in very different parts of the world.

They never 100% went away but shifted to random categories. Spices have been in short supply the past few weeks. :woman_shrugging:

All the golden raisins were cleared out but plenty of regular purple raisins. That might just be a highly specific situation though.

There have been weird things consistently out since the pandemic began, but suddenly, it’s lots and lots of things again. It’s possible I’m the canary in a coal mine for you guys, wat out here at the end of the supply chain like I am. Also possible it’s just craziness surrounding the insurrection. We have a propane shortage out here as well.

Soy products. It’s been weird.

We haven’t had certain things since last winter. They are largely things that come from far away and require cheap labour, like mandarin oranges.

Beef bouillon. Husband finally found some in the Hispanic market after not seeing it for weeks in our normal stores.
We also only had mini cans of coca-cola available at Sam’s Club for a couple weeks.

Shit’s weird.

Yeah. Oranges have been iffy. There are almost always some at the store. But like actually putting rotten oranges out. Bananas a little up and down too. But berries are always fresh?
