Covid-19 discussion

You are SO SO kind. I have about 40 left in my current box and Amazon says the box I ordered is still coming between the 18th and 20th. Hopefully that stays on course.

Ugh :disappointed_relieved: tomorrow have to have another engineer come to our apartment to review a case with SirB. I feel like our castle of isolation is being compromised. Not to mention our apartment is a mess right now :woman_facepalming: But no way around it, heā€™s still working and apparently this isnā€™t doable via phone or skype because Reasons. :woman_shrugging: I guess they could meet in public but likeā€¦ thatā€™s not great either.

Lots of exposure the next few days I guess. Peds appointment this morning (canā€™t skip, need shots, blood draw and a formal weight). Engineer tomorrow. SirB has a scene Wednesday, although at least will be in PPE for that.

Is your apartment in a complex where they might be able to meet in the lobby or in a business center or something? Iā€™m not sure if that would be better but itā€™s an ideaā€¦

Was just gonna suggest the same thing as JJ. Our last complex had a biz center or even the yoga room in the gym that was hardly used and would be easy to quickly wipe down

Nope. :frowning: no community rooms, canā€™t meet in the lobby since itā€™s protected information.

Okay, looking into the NSAID question more. (NOT medical advise, etc). @rural hit on a lot of it. The controversy seems centered mainly on whether it worsens anything once exposure is established, or BEFORE. Itā€™s being talked about as ā€œdonā€™t take ibu if you get sickā€. It should really be, ā€œdonā€™t take ibu right now because it increases your chances of getting sickā€. And most likely this only applies at pretty high doses? In general, those are for people on them for medical therapies like for RA. In the case of anyone immune suppressed right now, talking to your doctor about risk/reward of staying immune suppressed if you canā€™t self isolate effectively is a good idea.

SirB and I havenā€™t busted out the Biochem books to look at the specific pathway though, and Iā€™m not sure what the lung specific picture looks like- Iā€™ll still very much stand by ā€œtalk to your doctor because full clinical picture matters a lot hereā€.

Over the weekend between Friday and Sunday, work went from ā€œwe arenā€™t authorizing any wfhā€ to ā€œuse your discretion be extra available and talk to your PM.ā€

Greyman and I are going to go in and advocate for the projects we work for being entirely wfh for anything possible. Talking points:

  • People can be carriers without symptoms
  • Symptoms take a whopping 14 days to show up
  • For those whose work cannot be done from home, the office is safer the fewer people are in it
  • CDC recommendations
  • Cattening the curve

Boyfriend is advocating this with his boss today too, using these talking points in addition to ā€œthe mayor and governor both said so.ā€

I donā€™t expect it to work. Fully expecting him
To have to decide between going in indefinitely and exposing himself, and saying no, heā€™s wfh, and getting fired because wfh is not approved. Maybe iā€™m wrong. I hope so.

My parents are not taking this seriously, and I am struggling to let go of the fact that I cannot change their minds. There have been two deaths of people in their age range, and many serious cases where they live (of younger, healthy people) and my mom continues to ā€œbelieve things will be fine.ā€ We got into an argument yesterday because I am trying to convince them to socially isolate and be as sanitary as possible, etc , and my mom said we ā€œhave a difference of opinionā€ and to let her do as she feels best. Sigh. Scientific facts are not opinionsā€¦I am struggling to let go of the fact that they are adults and will do what they want, no matter how passionately I approach the topic with the motive of theirs and others well being at stake.
This whole situation is causing me to really appreciate how far I have come from the extremely religious/science fearing background I was raised in. I just wish I could help my parents in a meaningful way.

My parents are the same way - they think prayer will protect them better than any actual health measures, and theyā€™re both over 70. They were planning on driving cross country next week to come see us. and mocked me for advising against it.
Now my family is doing a quarantine so even if they show up, we canā€™t let them in. Iā€™m really hoping they donā€™t test that. Itā€™s a 3 day drive. They are old.

Yesterday I stumbled onto the vlog of a diamond princess cruise ship passenger who both he and his wife got corona. Heā€™s smart, no-nonsense and has the most calming voice. Him and his wife were at high risk due to their age but he talks about early symptoms and recovery from a Japanese hospital here:

Good thing to watch if you want to consume more info but need a calming voice.

The level of care they received over the course of their illness (in Japan) would bankrupt the average person in america.

I wonder if this will open eyes to the wild insufficiency of our health care payment system, or, if it will simply be another way everyone is getting screwed and another thing we (lawmakers) act like is unfixable.

I think the overuse of the phrase ā€œstay safeā€ in this time is a little odd. Stay healthy, stay clean, stay inside? I mean itā€™s a virus not a late night walk alone or a long car ride or a whitewater rafting excursion

Iā€™ve been switching to ā€œstay healthyā€ but that seems odd too. Itā€™s a little closer to a generic ā€œgood wishes/happy holidays/have a good afternoonā€ type comment.

Usually the people Iā€™m saying it to are about to embark on an epic 5-15 minute drive home, made more difficult by the absence of traffic.

But last week when someone left I wished them sweet dreams at work in response to them wishing the three of us sweet dreams in our nap

My mom is 81 and has had lung cancer surgery. She has told me that I canā€™t see her for the duration. :sob: I usually see her 3 out of 4 weekends, so itā€™s going to be weird.

Michigan bars and restaurants are closed to dine in as of today too.
