Covid-19 discussion

I would go with the wait two weeks. It sucks, but it’s safer.

Wait two weeks. Be safe!

Greyman is finally taking this seriously. Generally wfh is possible on a day to day basis if you get it approved by your manager. We’re also both somewhat high-value employees, and could likely just do it and ask forgiveness rather than permission.

Trying to consider who makes sense to include in our node if we do this. It seems like almost everyone has substantial exposure vectors.

Using nicknames:

  • Bride lives with a large family of 2 elderly parents, 2 children, and an overly unconcerned sister and her partner. Not only is that a lot of people, but it’s basically already a node. I assume Groom is attached to this node for obvious reasons.
  • Dragon is nonchalant and also very unlikely to work from home. But the good thing is his work is for a very small company and is not customer-facing, and basically won’t do anything social other than hang out with us if we explain the node thing to him. He does follow instructions well.
  • Skydiver doesn’t work with a lot of people, but cannot work from home, and does do Kali (some kind of martial arts thingy) once a week. Unsure if still doing that. Also lives quite far away.
  • May and her boyfriend would be a good fit if they start working from home. Especially since I’ll still have a running buddy.
  • Coach keeps travelling all the time so nope.
  • Mountain works at a grocery store, so not the best.
  • Smash Bro is now working from home. I don’t have details on his other interaction with the outside world. I know he has a lot of family in the area so he might be treating them as his node.
  • Stoic works from home, lives with his parents. I get the impression he’s immunosuppressed. Doesn’t go out into the world to socialize a lot.
  • Sib, Fleur and Pie live together. Sib and Fleur don’t actually interact with Pie that much despite being in the same house. Sib isn’t working from home yet, don’t know details on how close contact their job is with coworkers. Fleur is self-employed and works from her laptop. Pie works from home. I think Sib and Fleur interact with a lot of friends.

I really don’t know who to try and make part of our cell to keep us and the other members as safe as possible.

Also, need to cancel D&D which includes Dragon, Mountain, Skydiver, and Sib.

Sleep To Boost Immune System

I’m almost done reading “Why We Sleep” (written by a sleep scientist) and I am very compelled by all of the studies that getting a good amount of natural, not drug induced REM sleep is possibly the most important thing that you can do to keep your immune system strong and to heal your body and your brain. There’s so many benefits that I can’t even list them.

So if you’ve been talking Vit C and Vit D to strengthen your immune system, also try to get 7-9 hours of sleep. This is not just time spent in bed, but actual sleep.

My pregnant SIL and her husband are meant to go on a weeklong international trip this week. As far as I know, they haven’t canceled it. My MIL and FIL are also supposed to be going on a 10 day international trip.
I am stressing, but we don’t have the type of relationship where I can tell them to stay the fuck home.

H read this book and we radically changed our sleep habits and it has helped (though that’s somewhat minimal due to the tiny human, but every little bit helps)

My office is now on 100% WFH until further notice. I’ve never been less happy to not have to go into the office. I mean, yay no office, but boo COVID.

Frustrated with the USS strongman federation and some other pl feds that are continuing to have meets right now.

Getting nervous about cat supplies. Just ordered 36 cans on Petco (there is a promotion for signing up for repeat delivery) and I’m wondering if we should get more… that’s only like 2 weeks worth. Can’t starve our cats!!

I lost my ability to sleep more than a couple consecutive hours at a time thanks to perimenopause. Not fun at the best of times but I am really worried now about what that will do to my immune system.

Got over a stomach bug mid last week and rejoined society just in time to be thrown into craziness with COVID-19. On the personal side myself and the cats are fine and well-stocked and I’m more than introverted enough to be content with being mostly on my own for a while, and so far my relatives most likely to be vulnerable are wiling to hunker down which I appreciate. There’s one idiot cousin (is there always one idiot cousin?), but he’s mostly complaining that his wife sister and friends are refusing to go out/go on trips with him so at least there are sensible people around him.

On the other hand I’m really curious how this is going to go when work starts tomorrow and the quarter-ish of my company that’s in western time zones and capable of working from home (so 30,000+ people) all try to VPN in. I suspect it’s going to be messy and might very well land me back at work and just avoiding others as best I can. Hoping not, but we’ll see.

I normally order a month at a time on chewy.com. Mainly to meet the free shipping minimum spend but now I am glad for the large quantity we have in the house.

Is it from the hot flashes? :frowning: My naturopath gave me some Acteane to try, and it seems to be helping.

If you can nap, do it! And keep your bedroom cool. The book says one trick aside from lowering your bedroom temp to around 65F is to soak your feet in hot water or to take a bath before you go to bed. When you get out, the evaporation lowers the core temperature in your body and will help you to sleep. And he recommends against alcohol.

Our work has about 5000 people mostly in the US and Australia. There are 1000 licenses. It should work fine because there are only a few things we actually need it for. Office 365 is online.

I would wait two weeks.
One of my clients is a flight attendant and specifically does international flights. No clue where she’s just flown in/out of.
I thought I was fine with it, but when I went to their house today I was anxious within a few minutes.

No, those are mostly under control after a birth control change. It’s the waking up in an utter panic and being unable to fall back to sleep afterward. In general I am very easily awakened now and I used to be able to sleep through anything. Apparently this is common at my age.

We can’t control the heat in our apartment, but the bedroom doesn’t have a radiator in it and it’s generally fairly cool. Our temp is programmed to be 68 overnight. I will try the hot water trick, I’m not really a baths person.

Whoops. To be fair, I generally only drink on the weekends and I don’t see a difference between nights I drink and nights I don’t. Other than if Boyfriend has been drinking too he gets really bad restless legs syndrome that HE can sleep through but I cannot. :stuck_out_tongue:

I also order off Chewy but that’s because they’re literally the only place that carries my dog’s prescription food. I had our regular order sent early so we have 6-8 weeks worth of food on hand now but that’s partly because I’m guessing her food is made in China and at the time I ordered things were still getting worse there. Now China is recovering but the rest of the supply chain in the US is the iffy part.

My county has its first confirmed case. The county has officially shut down its two major shopping centers, including one that’s near me and houses a lot of small businesses. I was already worried about them.

All restaurants and non essential stores are closed in France since yesterday midnight. They decided to do it as people were still going to restaurants and organizing things. They are considering deploying the army and ordering confinement in the Paris area as people are still doing business as usual and the virus keeps spreading. It’s like whenever there’s a measure to protect us, we humans find a way around it.
