Covid-19 discussion

I have been informed that if my kid is at home and there is no other childcare then I have to take it as sick time. In the past if he’s been home sick I could only claim work hours when he was napping. No idea how they’re going to deal with massive amounts of their workforce being at home, especially as there’s a lot of married couples with kids at my company who will be in a similar position. :pensive:

Learn something new every day! Not sure if it’s just distance of time or case of ignorant American here

Oof. Good luck. I’m noticing a lot of folks in my FB neighborhood group offering childcare solutions…kinda defeats the purpose of closing schools though I guess the group are a lot smaller so maybe it still helps.

I would like to know the answer to this question. Particularly when what one needs to destress is intense cardio PLUS the camaraderie of sweating in a group.

I was JUST starting to make some friends at my gym.

Also hear you on the apartment friendly, my preferred exercise is dance fitness but my downstairs neighbor will have FITS and/or complain to our landlord if I do that.

Yes please, I was thinking of starting one, actually. (ETA: Ah, I see you’ve done it!) Vomit all the anxiety here, learn coping strategies there. Sounds great.

Everyone keeps saying we should buy gift certificates to our favorite small business, restaurants, etc so that cash keeps coming in and they can stay open.
I’ve considered this but am concerned they’d close anyway so I’d be out the money. I guess it would basically be a charitable donation.
Which isn’t in my budget right now.
What is everyone else doing around this?

Many small businesses in my area will do curbside pickup if that is something you’re ok with. The LYS will even take your video call and personal shop around the store with you and then bring the purchases out to your car or ship them to you

Nothing. The main small shop I routinely do business with is my local bike shop and I just gave them quite a bit of $. Mechanic shop I love too but they should be fine. We almost never eat out and when we do lately we have been boring and gone to chain restaurants we like.

I don’t have a car, though, so I’m not sure if places do curbside pickup if both parties are on foot?
It’s mostly restaurants anyway. We don’t buy much Stuff these days since, y’know, we were supposed to move out of state…

Oh also. Some things that are free to do: like/follow them on social media, share their posts, leave them a review on Facebook or yelp or wherever they ask for reviews, comment on their posts, post yourself and remind your friends/family that this time is going to be hard for many small businesses and if they can show their support to please try to do so.

If you’re within walking distance all the shops I know would deliver it to your door so it’s worth an ask

One of my clients is an NP. Actually, to be honest, she might be a doctor… I’m unclear on this.
Regardless I went to walk their pup today and chatted with her husband a bit. She’s works at the largest hospital in the area and she’s on day 6 with 16 more days to go. He said she’s been gone by 7 every day and home after their baby is in bed (like 8) every night. Yikes.

When I sent her the update from my walk with their pup she said it was a nice break in her day and that at least made me feel nice, but sheesh… 22 days in a row?

Question from the live chat—did I hear correctly that if we socialize with anyone else, it should be exclusive, like if a group of four people gets together you can keep doing so as long as none of you come into contact with anyone else? Or is that only for certain areas?

That’s what I read in the Guidance article! You can make a pod. Just can’t have someone bringing unknown germs into the pod.

This makes sense, and also anyone I might want in my pod doesn’t seem ready to isolate to that extent :pensive: Including my husband. I guess he can live in a tent in the yard and the cats will be my pod.

Those who have had therapy delayed or cancelled:
On this IG (see screenshot) if you click at the very top left account photo you will get an option to watch a saved Instagram live – one of the ladies who hosts the podcast this account belongs to is a therapist with 20 years of experience, I found the video at least somewhat helpful.

The suspected case at the place I was at last Friday has gotten back the results of their tests, and they were negative.

So now I’m no more a potential vector than any other random person who walked through the PATH last Friday around 1pm.
