Covid-19 discussion

I feel like only if his base is taking things seriously, which they aren’t :frowning:

And if it gets crazy, I don’t know if they’ll see that he is supposed to be responsible for emergency measures…

This level of levity was surprisingly effective in an email from a yoga studio:

I hope he gets it, it kills him, and it hurts a lot while it does so.

What he’s done is unforgivable and unredeemable.

My moms church has canceled services until further notice.

He’s bizarrely Teflon-like.

I’d rather Trump stay alive than put Pence in charge.

Oh, I can wish for both as long as I’m being bitter and vindictive. That would mean Pelosi.

I’m ok with this.

I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who has had this uncharitable thought. I told my therapist, “I hope he gets it and dies horribly - but shit, if he dies then we get Pence and he’s awful too, how many more people until we hit a democrat… WHOA, wait, after Pence is Pelosi! AWESOME.” And I felt like the Biggest Asshole Ever but my therapist knows I use black humor to cope and we both just started laughing our asses off.

I just can’t seem to feel even a little but bad about this uncharitable thought, and that’s not like me. But some things are beyond the pale.

Hmph, I signed up for a roller skating fitness class at the end of the month and it is now cancelled. We’re supposedly getting a refund. I think I’m going to send that to the cat cafe where my cats came from, who just announced today they’re going to close for 2-4 weeks. (Admissions fees are largely how they raise funds to help cats.)

I almost posted this under “tips for working from home”. This is a suggested schedule for kids who suddenly are home all day, since keeping to a routine is useful. I think I need to apply it to my own life, too.

Edit: here’s another version:

I wish I had graphic art skills. Would design a t-shirt with the slogan:

WASH YOUR HANDS, NANCY!

She made the decision to postpone/cancel. I’m so relieved! A handful of people were still up for going, and I’m glad I spoke up.

For heaven’s sake, it’s a piano playing event. Everyone touching the same keys :open_mouth:

I received the following message from my dance studio. (emphasis mine)

What does the bolded part mean? We are holding classes but we don’t want you to attend?

I’m not sure what to do about my obstetrician appointment next week. Her office is inside a pretty major hospital campus.

It doesn’t seem like the ideal place to go as a pregnant person but I also need prenatal care?

I guess I’ll call closer to the appointment :woman_shrugging:

Bigger kid’s teacher and school are concerned about him attending school, as there is corona virus in my city and his immune system is compromised.
BUT
Little kid’s immune system is fine but his hygiene is terrible.
I could keep BK home but LD would just bring the virus to him. So I just send them both to school and bow to the inevitable? Keep them both home?

(School closures are for 3 weeks, starting march 28. I have to decide what to do for these two weeks.)

Maybe it is a typo, and they meant only currently enrolled students attend (as in, no drop ins?)?

I’d probably email for clarification. (If I was considering going.)

I don’t go on the weekends anyway, so this doesn’t actually apply to me. Just confused/wondering. I did go to the studio yesterday (before this announcement today).
I probably shouldn’t have gone, but now that absolutely everything else I do has been cancelled I’m actually glad I went. I didn’t know at the time it was going to me my last in-person social interaction.

You guys, I am FROTHING with apoplectic rage.

Boyfriend’s laptop finally got set up and he was given that and a monitor to take home, “just in case the building shuts down.” He STILL does not have actual permission to WFH.

Also, he’s not currently in possession of the laptop or monitor. Because he was carrying it out and got stopped by building security. He explained, they asked him what floor he worked on, he told them, and they were like, well, no one from that floor notified us of this. So he had to put it all back.

He called his boss, and apparently he was supposed to get some kind of sticker to put on it that means it’s OK for the equipment to leave the building. Except no one told him that. And the person who issues the stickers had left for the day. And he also was asked “why didn’t you bring a suitcase or something to put this in?” When a) he didn’t even know it’d be available today and b) no one told him it would be necessary to conceal the equipment from security.

And even if he had it, he has to keep going in until headquarters - which is in the Deep South somewhere and has NO FUCKING IDEA what it is like to be crammed into close quarters in the Chicago Loop and to have to ride germy public transport very day - says it’s OK for them to WFH, or until the building management closes the building. They have been very explicit that no one can WFH until either of those two things happens, until then their butts are required in seats.

I asked if his coworkers and him could push back as a group, and he said he tried to get that to happen but everyone else is afraid of losing their jobs and unwilling to speak up. He’s kind of being labeled a troublemaker for asserting himself over this, I suspect. He says he’s always the only one who questions anything and all the rest of them sit there like sheep and nod meekly and thank you sir may we have another.

You guys, what do we do? He was like, “do I quit?” And as much as I’d like to say yes, flee, they are going to literally KILL YOU, we’re headed into a recession and he won’t be able to find work easily during this.
