I know there’s precedence here, ww2 protocols basically apply…but that mat leave is more real here. Medical exemption means admin duty, but babies mean freedom. I’m not sure about for you
coughs
Me too.
but you coughed into your shoulder, right?
Studio #1 closes tomorrow for the rest of the month. Schools are also closed here. I’m relieved at the closures.
It is 100% the “we are losing our shit but pretending not to lose our shit” phrasing.
@anomalily, that article.
Wizard is already going bonkers being at home, and is going up to campus today to meet with a student group. Urgh.
I am not sure what to do with my job search… I absolutely did not want a FT remote job, but now I can’t imagine traveling to another state and working in a field office for months. No way to know when this will be over, but I guess lots of jobs will be temp remote for a while.
Getting more nervous about a really protracted holing up, so going to stock up even more on shelf-stable food and powdered milk if I can find it. Going to start with the small, really low traffic, expensive, limited selection store. It doesn’t have everything I need, so will try the big, high traffic, expensive store that treats their employees well for the rest. Avoiding the big, cheap store that’s probably making all their sick employees come into work.
I think the fancier stores have purell wipes at the door.
I brought my own bag so I didn’t need to use their hand carts, but should I be wiping down the exteriors of everything I purchase? I guess so…
The big cheap store is union with very affordable health care and sick time. (Not positive which one you mean, but FM and SW are union)
My boss lives in a neighborhood that’s heavily Indian/Pakistani/Middle Eastern and she said that all the smaller ethnic markets are very well stocked on many things including TP and cleaners.I guess the panic buying hasn’t happened there yet. I admit this didn’t occur to me - though for me getting to them requires a bunch of public transport.
I don’t know what sort of sick leave policies they have though.
I don’t know any of them well, and most seem to live very close to the shelter - so, far from me and farther still from my vet. They do all seem to be very caring people though, so I’ll keep this in mind in case we need it.
Umm. Katie Porter is a badass.
Also I hate American health care.
WOW.
I want to donate money that is effective to individuals in this crisis, and I’m torn between:
- venmoing/patreon-ing performing artists whose gigs were cut
- offer to buy groceries via delivery for people that can’t stock up because of disability and limited income
- offering to just send cash to tipped workers impacted
I rarely have this much disposable income, and I feel strongly I need to use it.
I love that glitches are now positive.
ALL HAIL THE GLITCH
I’ve been wondering the same thing re: helping out people for whom this will cause economic crisis.
With you on that. Since you have delivery options, I’d say prioritizing food (bullet point #2). I’ts not like you can’t send food to a musician or tipped worker who needs it.
Since there is no grocery delivery here, I’m trying to figure out how to help without increasing the spread. Maybe Amazon Pantry.
Yea, I’m just worried if food is paternalistic. Because if you can’t work for the next ???, you still gotta pay your rent. But you might qualify for SNAP.
Ah thank you! I was thinking FM, good to know.
That makes sense. If you know individuals who are likely to need help, I’d think the best thing is to ask what they need most.
