Much better alternative: solar system by Jill McDonald. Anything by Jill McDonald, tbh.

Mushroom Rain: love it. Excellent. So good. Led to a mushroom hunt and attempt at spore printing. Beautiful, too.

Bodies are Cool: good book. Love the degree of diversity represented. Simple message and structure without being preachy or academic.

Wanted to love this book but don’t. Maybe when Latte is older? But it got a “mama why you talking weird?” And put in the returns bag (which she never willingly does lol). Later taken out and we look at the pictures, but she’s luke warm at best on it. Maybe if your kid liked anti racist baby they’d like this- it’s kind of a similar tone, educational and speech given before a rights March vibes. That’s not Latte’s speed apparently, and neither of those have landed for her. It also feels more unfocused than anti racist baby come to think of it- the central thread on this wanders quite a bit.

PTF!

I don’t have interior pictures but we really liked this one- but it’s really for parents and babies too young to care. “Kitty is hiding. Kitty is hiding because I am a baby.” Etc. When “Mommy is thirsty because I am a baby,” she is pouring herself a glass of wine that she then drinks while Grandma is playing with the baby. My tweens also get a big kick out of it! Basically just a smiling baby wreaking havoc. “Basket is empty. Basket is empty because I am a baby.” Indeed.

And we read this one to Latte for bedtime routine every night from the time she was 4 months (when we started a formal routine) until sometime after she was 2 when she started refusing it. :smiling_face_with_tear:

Baby can see black & white (high contrast), you and I can sob at the sweetness.

About a disabled kid, sort of autobiographical? Helps kids learn what’s ok to ask someone, boundaries etc with a disabled kid centred in the story. Also the Catchpoles have a family IG account and discuss other books and things.
