Child enrichment (cheap and easy preferred)

Boxes are the ultimate cheap and easy child enrichment! Our house we like to toss some crayons in there and go to town. Or just generally hang out in a giant box.

I gave Pumpkin the plastic baggie her cracker came in, open, but cracker still inside. It’s an excellent game to get it out and everything makes very satisfying sounds. Note: she’s been supervised with it!

I didn’t take pictures, but yesterday afternoon I took a long, thin plastic bin and filled it with snow. Then I put it in the bathtub with bowls of warm water + food coloring and a bunch of measuring cups. The girls spent a good half hour in the tub playing. They would dump colored water into the snow, measure snow to put in the bowls and watch it melt, etc. A+ afternoon activity.

Gave Meowlet old spices from the cabinet and some.mismatched jars and some play bowls. He entertained himself while I made dinner.

Around Halloween time target had packs of 15 glow bracelets for $1. I bought a few and randomly give them to the girls to play with in the bath.

This is an excellent idea!!! Also brilliant use of a shower rod!

Ooh. Yes. As Meowkins noted, several brilliant ideas here.

I didn’t even notice that at first! Dang, how do I tell four years ago me?

The rod is super handy. The bath books also hang from it. The only downside is when they try to hang from it and pull it down :woman_facepalming:

Our shower rod is down. Maybe I put it up in this useful place and then buy another one for the traditional place

Vegetable based finger paints on the patio door. It went well until L decided to do her “all done” hand flapping and sprayed it all over the kitchen :woman_facepalming:

What do newborns like for tummy time?

Mirrors, black and white cards, mommy’s face, dancing jangly stuffed animals.

Chest to chest laying on your (even at an incline) also counts for tummy time and is often better tolerated.

ETA Mortimer moose was Latte’s dancing favorite

Crinkle paper!! But agree that tummy time on a parent was vastly preferred.

Yes! An empty bag style diaper wipe container was a great win with both of my girls. They loved the crinkles

Oooh yes empty wipe containers are so worth keeping. Tissue pull, crinkling, lid clicking when they get older. Enrichment ahoy!

Lying over your arm. Also may settle their tummy, was a great hit with a friend’s colicky baby when i showed them.

Oooh yeah we would do colic carry “house tours”. Just walk her around and show her stuff and tell her about them. She was a pretty spitty baby so it was nice to be able to adjust angle

Has anyone heard of or used Pathways.org? It looks like a great resource for understanding milestones/getting tips about age appropriate activities/games for ages 0-6. I downloaded the app.

Yes! They have handy YouTube videos too. I never used the app but I did have the CDC milestones one.
