I heard that the Canadian tire credit card can be used to pay bills that don’t normally accept credit card payments. That you use the online portal to pay bills and the bill thinks it was a bank not a cc. Is this true? Property taxes in my city don’t accept cc and paying such a huge bill (I have multiple houses) with no points or rewards sucks.
Shoppers Drug mart currently has their bonus redemption event on. If anyone has points and a list of shoppers - type items, now is the time.
(Also, my vacuum motor burnt out yesterday, and while I wouldn’t normally think to look for a vacuum at shoppers? apparently, they sell em)
(Also, my husband - “If you are buying a vacuum, get something for you too. When was he last time you bought yourself new makeup or something?” So i have a new eyeshadow coming as well)
Is buttergate permanent? Or am I using up old butter (I don’t think so, because this one is fridge not freezer butter). The last 3 blocks have not been close to spreadable.
You mean feeding the cows flax seed (or whatever) and the texture being different after the pandemic baking boom?
I suspect permanent. Mr. Cereal is leaving a chunk of butter out on the counter for spreading on lunch sandwiches. My kids are animals, like me, and think a big hunk of cold butter is great on bread.
you can replace the 4311.18 in total the following calendar year. the CRA doesn’t care how much you make in interest or growth.
you could have contributed 4000, made 15000 by a fluke one time investment like perfectly timing nvidia, taken out 19k in 2024 and contributed 19k + 7k new space in 2025.
I can shred without worry any T1s, T4s, etc from prior to 2018, correct? (I’m keeping the binder clip set of stuff from 2007 because that is the one where my former employer screwed up paperwork and CRA thought I’d earned millions and not paid taxes on it, but also, there was some pain around buying shares before they went public)
and MPAC I only care about the current one.
and city property taxes I don’t need to keep a record more than a couple of years to show that we don’t have anything outstanding.
right? shredding is stressful. Also we broke the shredder.
For the second time in a year I’ve handwritten a letter to CRA and am mailing it in. This is so much easier than phoning them and I’m supporting Canada Post and pretending it’s 1948.
from another site “Between 1971 and 2005, RRSPs, RRIFs and pension plans were subject to a foreign property limit, ranging from 10% to 30% of a plan’s assets.” There was some discussion late last year that large Canadian companies were seeing if they could get traction about having a minimum amount of Canadian exposure again (maybe just for CPP investments and large pensions?)
All this nonsense going on is a lot. Is anyone changing anything about your finances or life in response?
I’m definitely not crossing into the states until someone rational is president, and I’m going to try harder to not use Amazon. There is probably something I could do with my investments, but I’m not sure what and my crystal ball is in the shop.
our renovation costs are increasing probably - we have been told the quotes for our new window and door are going to increase unless we lock in by end of next week. Similarly, the appliance package we have put a deposit on will likely go up in price before we can take delivery.
I haven’t actively looked into what it would take to move some of the shadowy one’s assets to NZ / get a small property there, but it has been on my mind.
As discussed elsewhere I should rebalance the portfolio, but that is part of my general investor plan.
My Canada-first buying plan continues. I guess I could double down on the clothing/shoes side of it, but we already are in the <250/year with Amazon, so not much changing there.
I would love to join EU loll.
Right now I have a compulsion to hoard/invest money in case « something bad happens »
Also I am boycotting Amazon. I was already a bit pissed by the way they deliver items, but always ordered because if the convenience, but I will be fine without them!
It was pretty shitty about closing the Quebec warehouses.
Like others, I want to boycott any travel there. I do want to see my friend in LA, and she is Canadian so it’s like Canadian soil at her place. If I do desire any beaches it will be on an island in the future for now.
I can’t handle the news because it is all DT.
In investments I’m pretty divided between Canada Prefered Shares, us equity and VGRO. Not completely balanced but that’s what I have in each investment account.
We are going to Cmmw in April and probably Moab next Fall, but those are trips to see friends. We were thinking of a March trip to New Orleans but not any longer.
I’m cutting back on Amazon. I may cancel prime again.
I’m trying to choose Canadian made where there is a choice.
The trouble with the ‘choose Canadian made’ is that we aren’t much of a manufacturing nation. Resource rich is our thing. Maybe that changes in the near future? I would love to see our economy diversify, as a long term thing.
