I still have spent no money on food, drinks, or clothes. I also have still not been to the gym. So once again half successful, but still no stress.
It’s not part of my goals for this challenge, but I am proud that I have not taken any ubers this month. I’m trying to use them less and walk/take the bus instead.
Please place a treat in the kitten’s bowl
So, I finally started to tackle Goal #1. I’d been putting it off, but I now have a good start on a list of tasks. It’s really starting to become real that I’m leaving work, so am feeling a bit of pressure. At the same time, I realize that work will go on without me, so if I don’t get everything done, it’ll be fine.
I think there is a list of things to do before leaving work in the “Post-FIREl” thread on MMM. You might find some useful things there. Sorry you have to leave work under these circumstances.
Leaving work because of disability is an emotionally complex event. My situation was different from yours, but there are probably also a lot of similarities. Let me know if you want to talk about it, either in the forum or via PM.
Thanks, @Smacky, I will definitely be asking questions/sharing thoughts. It is a surreal kind of moment. I have a longish break from work coming up this Friday (due to U.S. Thanksgiving) and was thinking I would start a thread then to get input.
The only additional money spent has been food + drink, which is kind of a lot, did a big Costco shop and Aldi this week, and I still have to shop for Thanksgiving! Oh also an extra $20 under dates because we grabbed some food after the concert. I think that’s it! Oh, right, and kitty food under household, and $9 for nail polish under personal care. THAT is it, haha.
Goal 1 (Pack lunches): 3 out of 4 days, but the 4th day was once again a provided/free lunch so I’m calling it a planning success. Goal 2 (Find another place to have lunch when you need to run away and the weather sucks so you don’t buy a fancy coffee to have butt rental space): have not made progress, but also have not gone to coffee shop over lunch hour. Mostly because I’ve failed to have good “get out of the office” lunches… Oops. Goal 3 (Spend a normal amount of money on food, not an infinite amount): I think going okay??? I’ll know more when I do a money round up.
I’ll have to do proper update when i’m on a computer rather than phone, but spending wise I’ve been dandy this week. Food prep so-so. I am a bit stagnant on food detective mode now that my allergy appointment isn’t until January.
Spent moderate amounts of money visiting Kids City last weekend and it was delightful. Food and also clothes shopping for kiddos including a fancy suit and associated pieces It’s very very nice being able to save for these things. I couldn’t do that at all a few years ago.
Ironically I still find it impossible to spend on not-thrifted clothes for myself
I did none of this! Art project was waylaid by subpar weather since the next step requires spray paint. I did finally get the information I needed to set up autopay but the website was being slow when I tried to access it and then I forgot to try again at a different time. Maybe tonight. This will be a big help once it’s done.
One thing I did that I need to set a reminder for - okay, just did that before I forgot/got distracted - is to book holiday pet boarding in early October and then cancel whatever isn’t needed. Much less stressful than getting wait listed like last year, and this year since we ended up not needing to board the dog for Thanksgiving it didn’t even cost us any money. Christmas plans are still up in the air so that’s still booked for now.
I turned down an opportunity to carpool for a trip because I think it’ll save me from needless stress. The person who wants to carpool gets to just in the car and rides with us, but that adds a lot of burden on us - I plan on having some work calls from the car, I need to get to our destination in time for a mandatory meeting (and the person who is asking is NOT a timely person), and either way mr. flan would be the one driving… so in the end it doesn’t seem like there’s much to gain other than maybe $20 in the gas-split. $20 isn’t worth my stress this week.
My update:
I got a bunch of admin backlog done on saturday. That’s good. At this rate the chaos in my life won’t be resolved by month’s end, but it won’t be worse, so that’s a win, I think.
This weekend was a treat bonanza for all the animals. They don’t know why I suddenly went apeshit with the snacks, but they liked it. I didn’t keep track but rest assured that they all got waaaay more treats than any of you voted for.
This afternoon I will send little dude out with a whole bag of cat food, to distribute as he sees fit. Racoons and squirrels will get some of it, but the strays will also have a very good day.
If anyone has an idea for next week’s incentive, let me know.
Is this a weird snack for breastfeeding parties or post mastectomy parties or something? Or before a lift I serve a platter of these with an arrow pointing to a platter of nicely rounded oranges and grapefruits as a discreet announcement?
