I kind of like this photo, even though I’ve learned grackles are both common, and also jerks

This morning I joined a local chapter of Audubon Society on a Warbler Walk. We saw what I believe was a prairie warbler right away, but very far, potato quality photo only!

We also saw eastern kingbird. Not great photo but you can tell what it is

Various large birds in the sky - osprey, turkey vultures, red-tailed hawks. They saw a bald eagle, but I couldn’t make it out.

Also saw a red-bellied woodpecker, heard a Northern flicker. Got a blurry photo of towhee. In theory, saw common yellowthroat, but I just couldn’t seem to find them.

But two exciting ones, for sure. Saw indigo bunting a few times, and got some photos worth keeping.

And saw a blue-winged warbler!

honestly, if I hadn’t seen an indigo bunting myself last year, I’d be convinced it was all colour manipulation, but they really are that stunning.

happy little warbler. I saw a yellow one yesterday, but the camera was 20’ away.

We were looking for a kingbird (shadowy one’s bird of the day) but no luck. Just a ton of tree and bank swallows (plus a couple of roughs hiding)

Yes! Indigo buntings are so insanely pigmented. I love them so much.

We used to have one that would visit our house one day per year, eat all the amaranth (we had like…two volunteer stalks of it) and fly off.

Neo, these are awesome pics!!!

grackles can be relatively common in a region, and still interesting smart alec creatures worth photographing.

The colours by themselves are so compelling in different lights

I rarely get “good” birds but I had a few indigo buntings a couple of years ago. They were spectacular.

drizzle. my hands were so cold. the forecast had called for the rain to be over by 10am, and it was 1pm, so we were not at all prepared
