Birding

I’m definitely not confident in either direction, based on that photo!

Other photos did not help me. first feels more vulture?

Uploaded first and second photo to iNaturalist, and the first photo Merlin Bird ID, and both suggest Wild Turkey! I think the light brown feathers mixed in are maybe more common with turkey than turkey vulture?

Yeah, merlin said wild turkey across them all. It is just that we see turkey vultures pretty commonly - though not on the ground, and have never heard of a turkey other than at the farm up the valley https://riverdalefarmtoronto.ca/

Those look like turkeys to me. The primaries are especially turkey primaries and not turkey vulture primaries.

Very mediocre long distance shots, but a pileated woodpecker. I have to say, just before these photos, it flew across my yard, and the black and white wings are very striking!

Can you identify the northern shoveler, the green-winged teal, and the gadwall?!

So good! I was excited to see them 2 weeks ago because I hadn’t seen them before, but these photos are much clearer!

they do tend to be a bit further out from shore, but they really like our stretch of the lake, so we get a good chance to see them chattering about with each other and doing their synchronized diving

the auto focus struggles with the spaniel mutton chops for some reason though

Shovelers are such a delight.

We went birding yesterday but I took no photos. Imagine a bunch of bald eagles and osprey though.

While we were out, we also saw:

Tundra Swan

So many tree swallows… and not completely awful photos, despite how fast they move, and all the clouds. I believe these are all tree swallows; the blue/green ones being the males, and the brown ones being the females. But I’m definitely not sure.

There were well over a dozen greater egret. I usually don’t like my photos of them - the white tends to cause lots of distortion, but with some decent photo editing, these are looking pretty good.
