When was the last time either party had the Presidency, House, and Senate?
4 years ago. Republicans held all three after the Nov 2016 election.
That’s how/when they passed more tax cuts for rich people. It’s also how you know they know that killing the ACA altogether - legislatively - is politically unpopular. They had the power to do it it and didn’t.
They lost the House in the 2018 election.
My friend in russia: “Whatever is going on is certainly fucked up. I’m still catching up with the news but it’s on the first page even in Russia”
Holy shit, I just saw a video on Twitter of the protestors coming up to the barrier and the police officers trying to hold them off. The police didn’t even have a chance. I’m going to go take a walk outside now, this is the scariest thing I’ve seen in all of yesterday’s insanity.
Trigger Warning! I found this video disturbing. Do not watch if you don’t have the bandwidth right now. Someone falls and possibly sustains a head injury.

Where were the national guard?? Why weren’t there more police?? I know other people are asking these questions too, I hope answers are found.
Also I wonder if something like this is covered in police trainings? Or if it will be in the future, what’s in their manual of operations in how to deal with overwhelming force?
I was thinking this morning about the talk about invoking the 25th amendment. Part of me wants to see it happen, part of me is scared of what riots would occur if it did, and part of me wonders if that wasn’t actually Trump’s backup plan. If he couldn’t win, get himself removed so he can set up this “I’m being persecuted” narrative.
It’s amazing how much this feels like being in an abusive relationship. It’s so bizarre and sad to feel this “don’t set him off” feeling about the president.
We need to remove him and take whatever reaction the crazies choose to dish out over it. They don’t have the nuclear codes. He does, and he has nothing to lose.
Yeah. Someone on Twitter posted, “the most dangerous part of an abusive relationship is when you leave” and…yeah…
Also I wonder if something like this is covered in police trainings? Or if it will be in the future, what’s in their manual of operations in how to deal with overwhelming force?
I mean, I’m not a trained police officer…but SURELY how to deal with overwhelming force is covered in riot control.
Where were all the measures they used to move the crowd’s for Trump’s photo ops? They sure knew how to disperse a crowd then. Did they fire any rubber bullets? I do know some tear gas was used, but not “bombs” more direct spray at specifics. What about sonic cannons? Flash grenades? They have all this, and we know it, because they used it when Trump wanted to walk across the street to look like he’s a Christian.
The police were not prepared because, and I truly believe this, they were in on it. Maybe the ones at the barricade you shared were not, but the ones who just moved it out of the way and invited them in on the video I shared earlier sure were. But more security wasn’t ordered ahead of time, and they knew this was coming- hell, the president sent them directly from his rally, and has been telling them to do it for weeks.
Oh, but apparently they are still able to arrest journalists. Two from the Washington Post were arrested, with their cameras still rolling.
But the mob, those are fine people.
Response to the video
I can’t believe how few officers there were there.
I mean, there’s a lot that’s unbelievably terrible about that video, but that seriously looks like the amount of police presence we have at a city council meeting.
My republican boss was saying yesterday that it was just terrible that Georgia was going Democrat because it would be awful that one party held all three. But he didn’t seem to care when it was the republicans. Does it usually flip in two years though, so that there’s a mix again?
I think most times in history it flips at midterm.
Basically there was an anti-republican wave due to Trump. When things normalize again, republicans are less likely to vote for democrats.
State houses also did not overwhelmingly go republican, so if redistricting happens, they will likely make it harder for democrats to get re-elected. They like to do that.
Wow. Those poor officers. Like our officers have more numbers for anti poverty protesters, pride and the santa claus parade.
Yeah. And I can definitely believe @reliable otter that others excused themselves (sorry didn’t see earlier video)…these ones are so alone
Is anybody else feeling especially grumpy/cynical about all these sudden resignations? I mean, I guess it is good that people are finally making some kind of statement and talking with their feet. But they all pretty much were due to be gone in two weeks anyway. Now they have a bit more time to pack. And maybe have kept the possibility alive that someone will hire them again.
Would this be an appropriate place for us to speculate on what positive things a Biden/blue House/blue Senate administration might start implementing right away to make our lives better?
Or is that tempting fate or being too pollyanna given everything that is going on?
(I hate to be that “Let’s think positive!” person. But just now I was musing on, hm, Mitch isn’t going to be able to obstruct things any more. What can get done now that couldn’t before?)
Yeah. Too little too late, and, really? THIS is what it took? People literally storming the capitol?
There were WAY more cops at all of the protests here that I used to attend in the Before Times.
And WAY more cops at the BLM protests that I didn’t attend because covid.
I’m a pollyanna usually. Make it sound better!
