A US Election Thread Where We Will Be Nice to One Another (but not to seditionists)

I enjoyed it. I wasn’t raised religious and I was also raised in the southwest which is much less traditional than say, the northeast. So I’m not always sure what is the general feeling of the nation about something like religion. My parents were hippies, sometimes I don’t quite have the pulse of America.

After all that he still signed on to object to the Pennsylvania votes, so now they’re back to debate. WTF dude, read the room. (as well as all of the House Republicans who objected to the other states as well).

Is it wrong to call them all pricks?

I thought he stated that he planned to raise the objection (as asshole-y as that is) but then cede his time (and theoretically everyone else would also? But I don’t know if they have to go the full 2 hours) so that they could get to the vote. So in other words, sort of “in principal only”. As much as I don’t like saying that. Is that not what happened? (I turned off coverage.)

Some of the catholic thing is also… well, a lot of bias against Irish immigrants that was still alive and well in the 1960s.

Oh, I don’t know. I hear them read the objection and then say they were moving to separate chambers and said duck it and started to get ready for bed

I just watched Heather Cox Richardson’s fb livestream/Q&A from today. Excellent (as she always is).

Strange part - she pointed out that the impeachment was just one year ago. Technically, it was just under 1 year ago.

I think that was probably the thing that shocked me the most today.

I was hosting the morning news live when the impeachment news broke. And I thought I was on air when the biggest story of the year broke.

There seems to be a preference for people who claim some sort of Christian denomination (which includes Catholic), rather than agnostic/ atheist/ Muslim/ Hindu/ Jewish etc, and we have our right wing religious groups who normally come in either the “(white nuclear) family first” or “(white) Australia first” flavours.

I was scrolling through the media and there were Nazis amongst the other white supremecists. So I hope any Jewish people in the area and in the USA generally are also taking care of themselves this week.

Yes exactly. I think either some Christian maybe agnostic/athiest as long as they don’t say too much about not being religious is considered ok but there is negativity towards other religions, I know my federal member is Muslim and she cops abuse for it

It’s about damn time. Is it petty of me to be looking forward to the rage of my coworkers this morning? I feel petty but their doom and gloom is gonna be excellent. Let’s hope I don’t burst into ‘oh what a beautiful morning’ at least out loud lol.

I have converted this into a musical number in my head for you, complete with backup dancers as you burst through the office doors.

Rep. Jake LaTurner (R-Kansas) tested positive for covid. He was in congress in person yesterday.

On the Catholic thing, it is still a concern for some people. I saw a few posts this year concerned that Biden would be more concerned with the Pope than the Constitution.

I’m also not convinced that the Biden is a pedophile rumor isn’t attached to his religion in some way. The Catholic priest abuses of children and subsequent cover-ups get referenced here a bit.

I am the first person in the office this morning. Boss likes to take Thursday mornings off so the other guys wait until right at 8 or a little after to come in. I’m just gonna enjoy the silence while I can. Then I’ll enjoy the weeping and gnashing of teeth later. :sunglasses:
