A US Election Thread Where We Will Be Nice to One Another (but not to seditionists)

They said all of the capitol complex is secure and cleared of rioters now.

Somewhere secure might not be on the grounds. They have secret secure locations.

Though how they would evacuate that many people secretly, makes me think they likely are on the grounds.

They don’t have to be in the chambers to do this, but might want to, symbolically.

I’m amazed they were able to sweep for bombs that fast

True. My thought was somewhere on the grounds, since it’s a lot of people. :woman_shrugging:

I am glad it’s somewhat calming down but at the same time I want to see some JUSTICE on the butts of these a-holes wrather than a “tsk tsk, that wasn’t very nice, go home and thin about what youk done.”

Pretty riled up about the assymetry in response between this and like um actually feaceful protests?!?!

And no I can’t spell right now sorry.

Y’all, I was in high school during 9/11 so my memories of politics afterwards are a little fuzzy. Remember when Giuliani was “America’s Mayor”?

What happened?

(I’ve aware that Giuliani was problematic back then as well, but not this batshit crazy, right? Right?)

Such a scary time. Between this, the lack of COVID funds, and last summer’s treatment of BLM protesters, I can only hope some of the senators realize why DC needs to be a state, with a state’s control over its public spaces (not that MPD is so good but they’ve so far mostly passed the low bar of being less alarming than the Secret Service et al)

I can’t imagine how many people would have died so far if this were a left-wing protest. There’s no pretense at all about comparable treatment, let alone just treatment.

They should do it over Zoom.

Mike Pence? You’re on mute.

Giuliani said to the crowd of terrorists just today that we needed to have “a trial by combat.” Problematic, batshit crazy, criminal. This is who he is now at least.

A video is going around facebook of US capitol police moving a baracade and letting protestors in.

They directly put the people they are supposed to protect in danger. We all know nothing will happen to any of the protestors, I still think Trump will pardon them all, but senators should be calling for the heads of the police who did that.

Police are complicit.
I liked to think “not all of them are bad”, but I’m beginning to have my doubts. Our system has given them too much power and power corrupts. Police have appointed themselves judge, jury, and executioner.

Not that it matters an actual bit in the face of waves hands vaguely, but mentally prepare for a stock dip in response to this. Certainly until the markets regain confidence, but possibly longer if they try to oust Trump early as a national security risk. It’s never fun to see those graphs drop, so just be prepared for the possibility.

Umm…the terrible thing I think is “yaasss” because I didn’t have enough cash on hand to go all in last March. but also…like then I feel terrible because I would rather have a real democracy than better stock portfolio

Does that link work?

What kills me, is these people were not arrested. They were nicely escorted out. There are photos of them holding mail addressed to representatives, holding pieces ripped from Pelosi’s office. A woman died. Why were they not lined up, cuffed and zip tied (maybe use the zip ties one protestor brought with him…what was his plan if he reached lawmakers), and jailed.

Not just wave goodbye as you kindly walk them out.

Oh hey, it’s a new year. I guess if markets eat shit, it’s a good time to do our IRAs for 2021.

Trying to journal - so Biden got the presidency, the Senate is flipped now with GA, what’s up with the House? Is that blue/will that be blue in a few weeks?

And I thought ohhhhhh noooooo, because I specifically chose not to sell this week ahead of and in lieu of anticipated sale at the end of this month (it’s going to happen soon as part of withdrawal). I wasn’t trying to be a dirty market timer, but I did ask, “Is there any reason to care about the sale now vs. later?”

Then I thought - this is negligible vs. actual democracy.
