A US Election Thread Where We Will Be Nice to One Another (but not to seditionists)

The actions are the same, but it’s the timing and the nature of the positions that are…interesting. Could be something. Could be nuthin. Only time will tell.

Using the informal indices of the availability of 9mm ammunition, this country appears to be uneasy. Stuff can’t be found for love nor money.

I was definitely happy that I use a .45 last time I bought ammunition.

You know what they say about men with big hands.

They shoot big guns. Of course.

I don’t like shooting .45’s. My tender little wrists!

One of the worst guns I’ve ever shot was a tiny little S&W airweight (.38 special). No weight there resist the recoil and it alllll went into my hands. Multi-pound monstrosities are much more comfortable.

And this is why there are so many styles in the world. Keeps everyone happy!

That was what the guy at the range told me when I was trying to shoot the airweight and crying. There are tons of options and they won’t all hurt.

Still haven’t found a rifle I’m at all comfortable with though.

I’m the opposite; rifles are my favorite, and handguns can go poop themselves.

I don’t like guns AT ALL and I had a moment of thinking maybe we should get one.
For now I’m sticking to my baseball bat.

I think it’s just because I have shitty shoulders.

Oh yeah I can see how that wouldn’t be comfortable.

Probably best. Guns will often do more harm than good for your personal safety unless you are trained with them, and even then it’s iffy whether you’re more or less safe with one on you.

I like shooting guns and bows. I won’t ever own a gun.

Well I have a fork.

Ya’ll mind if we get back on topic?

Maybe I can use this as an argument as to why I need a nail gun. Useful for home projects AND self defense!

Reason for considering getting a weapon(in my household’s case) was due to concern over a coup and follow up civil war. Turns out the reason my husband got so freaked out when he couldn’t find me last night was he was worried that the Biden Harris pumpkin we have displayed prominently led someobe to come and attack me in our home.

The election has already been stolen. At this point we’re just waiting to see how bad the downstream effects are going to be.

@marcela, you can take a basic handgun safety class at most ranges. It’s usually 8 hours, and will run you through safety, and will let you practice shooting several different kinds with excellent supervision. Good world experience.

Many people walk away from a basic class having been reinforced that they indeed do not want guns in their lives, and that’s a great thing to know about yourself.

I chuckled last week when I realized that I had ammunition delivered on Election Day. Not that .177 air gun pellets are a self-defense round :upside_down_face:

Off topic from the actual topic but…

:+1:

I took a handgun safety class that was a bunch of hours of classroom (where we had lectures, talked about things, looked at various types of guns, watched videos, etc), a test (at which point I could have applied for a license but didn’t and now it doesn’t matter anyway as I live in a different state), and a session at a range. I recommend it for knowledge acquisition! I took the class mainly for knowledge about guns and how they work, rather than any significant desire to owning one, but also so that I might be a little less scared of guns in general. Things I learned (among other things):

  • It was really difficult to fully load bullets into a clip (seriously, I had to get the instructor to help me with the last 3 because I just didn’t have the hand strength).

  • I have quite good accuracy for someone with no experience.

  • The laws regulating firearms varies GREATLY between the states.

  • Even though part of the point of taking the class was to take the mystery and scariness away from guns, it scared the shit out of me to actually fire the gun. I don’t think I’ve ever been so scared in my entire life. And this was in very safe conditions, at a range, with the instructor right there. I did use the entire clip, and it maybe got a tiny bit easier by the last bullet, but I was overwhelmed by the feeling that if something went wrong or if I made a mistake, someone could DIE.

  • Guns are SUPER LOUD. Especially at an indoor range. Even with ear protection. And sniper rifles are really REALLY loud. When we were there, there was someone at the range practicing in the outdoor section really long distance and it was amazingly loud.

  • I now can’t watch a movie and not notice when people have terrible trigger discipline. Or how often a completely modern and not broken handgun fires when dropped.
