A US Election Thread Where We Will Be Nice to One Another (but not to seditionists)

Fixed! Or, at least the paperwork has been provided. It’s an extra fucking cluster of course, since I’m trapped on the ship, but King County Elections had all the answers to make sure my ballot counted. I got outvoted on many things, but my voice will be heard.

Is anyone else just terribly frustrated with Nevada? Like, I understand that it takes time to count the ballots, but yesterday morning they released a number and then said they would do another update in the evening, and when evening came they said they would do one today at noon, and then noon came today and…nothing? Like, they have obviously been counting ballots, but their reported count still shows 76% counted, just like all day yesterday.

I’ve only been checking NPR. Have other news orgs been updating anything at all for Nevada?

I think they did update? Latest update times on CNN & ABC show timetags from this afternoon. Fox shows the same numbers, but doesn’t have timetags. Seems accurate, as the numbers match what 538 posted as the day’s roundup on where the vote stands (Scroll down to Nathaniel Ratchik, @ 3:56pm).

ETA: Read Nate Sliver, @ 1633, too!

I watched a lot of funny tiktok videos about this last night, thanks to my teenage daughter. One was cracking me up where she was asking Nevada what they were counting. “Did the cacti vote?” The scorpions? You all have more rattlesnakes than people, what are you counting??"

I’m sorry I don’t have an answer, but you gotta find the laughs somewhere!

I did see ABC has them at 89% reporting, CBS as well.

CNN is showing 89% estimated counted for Nevada. It looks like Biden is now a little more ahead than he had been the past 24 hours

Depending on how into the weeds I want to be at the moment, I’ve been reading Jon Ralston’s tweets and he was giving good details about additional ballots coming in and from where (in Nevada).

Thank you all. My problem must be using NPR to get the numbers :frowning: They are still showing only 76% turned in. I’ve been using NPR because I can pull it up and the electoral count is right at the top of the screen so I can take a quick peek and then close the window

Clearly polling data is not as accurate as it once was, but I’d be interested if we ever get to see even a rough percentage breakdown between

1 - true believers in Trump and all the MAGA shit, anything from QAnon crazies to people formerly just right of center that have been radicalized by talk radio, Fox News, etc.

2 - people that hate Trump and all his shit but felt they couldn’t vote for Biden because of issue(s) XYZ, likely the biggest being abortion, basically the position of: “he’s an asshole, but he’s OUR asshole”.

ohhh…let’s not equate conspiracy theories with mental illness. Just to be specific about the language around qanon.

Honestly…this is me for Biden in many ways, with regards to healthcare. Further evidence of the ineffectiveness of our “issue” democracy.

If you asked me 2 months ago what I expected to happen, I would have said:

  • Biden wins the presidency, it’s pretty close
  • Trump tries to stop counting to avoid losing, lies a bunch
  • GOP maintains Senate
  • No significant down ballot/state legislature changes

And somehow I’m sitting here refreshing the various news sites and 538 blog for days…expecting something different? disappointed? vaguely relieved? still planning to emigrate?

Like…what is the surprise? (and I still feel like I don’t want to jinx things even though I don’t believe in jinxes and supernatural things)

Why do I feel like this is the Quidditch World Cup where Krum catches the snitch but Ireland wins?

No that was the 2016 election.

Y’all. Y’all. Georgia. I am sitting here losing my damn mind over Georgia. We are like millimeters away. I really hope they let Clayton county release their votes last. It would just be so, so sweet.

I have never in my life known so much about up-to-the-minute counts in states I don’t live in. Or that I do live in, for that matter.

Because the scoring in Quidditch is like the electoral college. Let’s all pay attention to these 2 people who matter, while the rest of you are just doing sport-busy work.
