22 in 2022 Challenge: Save $20,220

I need to total things up but I am confused. I had a large (to me) and unexpected inheritance this year. I funded my Roth with that money. I shouldn’t count that though, right? This should just be money that I saved out of actual earnings into various other savings buckets, 401k, HSA, etc., not money that fell from the sky?

I mean, you can count it, but it might not make things hard. So you can ignore it for the purpose of total if you like. But o think it counts towards savings because you just as easily could’ve not saved your inheritance

I just squeaked by without counting the inheritance - $20,763.98

I definitely don’t remember if I filled this out or not!

Final 2022 update:
I’m proud I crushed this challenge despite some big expenses this year, mostly due to setting-and-forgetting my retirement savings.
Retirement savings $18,300 (not counting an employer match which I can’t be bothered to look up)
Savings account $11,900
Total for 2022: $30,200  @anomalily

Really late on updating this, but finally going over 2022 and getting myself together for 2023. It looks like I hit the goal in November! I ended the year saving 22,406 towards retirement (6000 in a Roth IRA and the other 16 in a 403b). I did not count any employee contributions towards this- just what I contributed myself. Automation for the win- I don’t think I would’ve hit this goal without it. @anomalily
