Made it to the finish line with 7 days to spare. As someone who just started a real savings habit this year, having a cold, hard number as a goal was a suprisingly helpful (read: essential?) motivator.

Finally sat down and did my transfer for Nov/Dec today! +2200 for 21300 in after tax savings. Looking at totals it feels like it should not have been this close or been such a spendy year, perhaps. But it’s still a very nice chunk of change.

Year end update:
Mortgage principal: $7,186.62
Husband 401k: $19,500
Husband Roth IRA: $6,000
My 457 plan: $10,400
Mandatory employee contribution: $652.09
Employer contribution: $1,867.19
My Roth IRA: $6,000
My brokerage: $2,000
HSA: $3,426.90
Total savings year to date: $57,032.8

This is technically the end of my reports for this year because I looked ahead to the December 31st paycheck and added in what that HSA contribution will put us at. This puts us at a 48.7% savings rate for the year and doesn’t consider the money we have sitting in readily accessible bank accounts.

I am heartened to see that we saved so much money despite me being out of work for 9 months and Luigi’s health scare costing a ton of cash. It will be interesting to see where we end up on the net worth change for the year. The market has done so many ups and downs that I’m not certain where we will come in. But we keep chugging along.

That’s great! I would probably put whatever odd number in that got my savings to an exact 50k if I was that close. Lol.

Same! The 31st is a 1/2stat for us, so I’m HOPEFUL it’ll land on the 29th or 30th!

Me three and usually it is the same but I quit 4 days before the end of the month but have 68 hours of leave accrued that have to be paid out so I dunno what it will be :sweat_smile:

I’m stupidly close to a new net worth round number so I’m checking rather compulsively.

If you’re up for participating for 2022, here it is - actually slightly scaled down so that we don’t inflate by $1000 every single year:

December Check In. I know we hit the goal at the end of November, but I wanted to finish out tracking the year.

Mortgage Principal: $1507.81
Pension: 1161.59
TFSA: 1000.00

Total Savings in December 3669.40

Year to date savings $46922.26

Still no backpay from the employer! Although the raise went into effect mid-December

2021 Final Numbers:
Mortgage Principle:$15,539.01
TFSA: $12,000
Pension: $9883.25 (this is my contributed half, which means that the employer also contributes an equal amount which I didn’t count. Also, husband has a pension but the likelihood of him being able to locate a pay stub is slim)
RESP Kid1: $5000 (we are behind. His limit for 2022 will be $4900 then he’s got his lifetime grant)
RESP Kid2: $2500 (he’s younger, and was caught up in 2020)
RDSP Kid1: $2000 (caught up on this now also, going forward the limit will be $1000)
