Habit tracker says I’m about 10/33 so far on flossing and core exercises, which might be ok. Need to improve regularity. Planning international trip with family. Excited. Haven’t done any of my fun things or made appointments. Research Paper is getting close but needs work/time.
Making some solid progress on my bingo! My sister is visiting at the end of the week and I have a fancy dinner booked, so I should probably get on tracking my core exercises and see if I can knock out a whole column!
I think you should specify what you’d like to can. I can do jams and pickles, but tomato products (sauce/salsa) scare me. (Most common cause of food-borne botulism!)
If you’re careful about acidity levels and using approved recipes, tomato products are as simple as pickles! The National Center for Home Food Preservation and anything by Food In Jars are good places to start, if one were looking for safe sources
Or, just make gallons of pico de gallo and devour it fresh, that’s tasty too
My strategy so far is “eat all the fresh tomatoes and buy the canned stuff” since I don’t have the gardening space to grow cannable quantities of tomatoes.
My broader point is that every canning product or product type is it’s own recipe so tackling The All of It is kind of a huge goal, but like 1-2 things is probably good to start?
Side note: my sister of a pretty great maker of jams, but she made Truly Excessive quantities of marmalade because citrus peels don’t cook down like berries, so her instincts were off. Everything has quirks.
I freeze and / or dry instead of canning. I would totally tackle canning with another person, but on my own it feels like a lot of handling of very hot things.
I’m making progress, but I’ve got a fair bit of training to do before I meet any of my exercise goals. We had my parents over for a BBQ and it went really smoothly, so I’m calling that one “done” since the goal was to know how to host people! I intended it to be a BBQ of friends, but I want one win for January! I also own an over locker now, so making an outfit is possible instead of a pipe dream.
I really want to figure it out for tomatoes because it’s what I expect to get way too much of in my garden. I’m trying to do obsessive research so when the time comes I’m confident and not scared shitless of eating my own canned foods.
note that this is not organized in order to help me win a bingo, just a list of things i want to achieve:
Positive movement:
Summary
Raise/promotion – I talked to my direct supervisor in the office about studying for a test that will help me move into a different department, potentially, and if I pass the test I get a $500 bonus (I hope – we’ve had some big org change at the beginning of 2020 that mean this might not be actively in effect). She actually brought it up to me and I enthusiastically agreed it’s a good next step. It’s an online study portal and I plan on going in there and setting it up this weekend, getting a feel for what I’ll actually have to learn, and thinking about study strategies. Find therapist – have left voicemails for 5 different offices, still haven’t found a provider. it’s discouraging and i know i need to put more effort into this but it’s so tough to make myself google even one therapy office and call them. Yoga – 6 classes attended, puts me on track for stretch goal New recipes — 2 (instant pot yogurt, pumpkin/chia/pineapple cake) Films – 6 films seen. My goal was not realistic. No library fines — actually remembered to renew my books once already Montreal trip — small amount of research on hotels, projecting total Amtrak points to fund travel Track every single expense — every cent this year is in there so far!!! Friendship — surprising even to myself I made a maybe small but big for me step toward lvl 2 and making a new local friend. I also made a very intentional choice to not bother rekindling an old friendship even when I had a perfect opportunity to try (maybe good? maybe bad? i’m not really regretting it, but I did fail to act on the goal here) time w/ little sister — dragged her to something i wanted to go to (lol); another day I took her to two bookstores debit rewards — all have been transferred to savings account
Negative/no movement:
Summary
emotional resiliency list — not started write songs — not started beyond my regular note scribbles; I did check out a book from the library about learning to play an instrument as an adult one bill on autopay — nothing loan with 1k balance — no extra payments made pay back 1k to grandma — no payments made moving plan — no thoughts given animation — 0 frames created; i feel like a piece of shit because this is one of the most important goals to me credit score — no change, but that’s also good because it hasn’t lowered passport — no steps taken coffee/cafe spending — I did get one $2 coffee. Not sure I care to have strict abstinence on this one if I can keep myself to a perfectly reasonable level. 20 pages for the future — nothing written
Possibly cancelled goals?:
Summary
Tracking miles biked ----I don’t have the bandwidth to do this. I just want to focus on bike commuting as much as possible – and amended goal is adding rides simply for pleasure/exercise more, instead of the only time I’m on the bike being to get to work or run an errand Brushing teeth 2x per day — another thing I am failing at and don’t have the bandwidth to quantitatively track my adherence to. Big problem with this one is I have super healthy teeth, never had a cavity, that my dentist is enamored with, even though I usually forget to brush at night. I am seeing a slight uptick in how often I do, but definitely cannot remember or care every single day.
Update:
30 days no drinking: made it 41 days, had a margarita at a work party yesterday, no regrets. Never been a huge drinker, so this has had virtually no impact on my life.
redo whiletrue.do - my websites all got a major makeover right at the first of the year. Now to ignore them for two more years.
increase patreons: I randomly picked up two more last month, so, check! I want to keep thinking about what I might do to increase this further.
honorable mention, “see a performance art/ immersive thing” - I went to the Winter Lights Festival, a big bunch of art installations. Does this count? Probably? It may be the best I can do without leaving town.
In progress: just texted my bro asking about coming to visit.
If your situation makes some goals impossible, you’re free to change them at will. If your therapy goal isn’t possible without your therapist, you can change them with something else without it counting against your once-this-year do-over.
I went XC Skiing today!
This challenge motivated me to pick a day and SCHEDULE it. Because I seem to have a habit of scheduling SOMETHING every day, that then makes it hard to go up to the mountains for the better part of a day.

Does anyone know the keystrokes to insert to highlight a section of text? I don’t know how to make my free speadsheet app print as a photo, and the only way I know to capture a screenshot on a tablet requires downloading another app that I don’t have room for.
I got two goals knocked out over the long weekend—went through the baby clothes and finished setting up my glass display! Also, I’m 2/6 on bread, 2/4 on bagels, and 1/4 on pizza.
