Low key makes me want to cry with happiness thinking about this.
You can dye with Sambucus nigra…if you ever want to thin that stand! Dyeing with Elderberries
Today I replaced the top planks of the wooden cover we have over our natural gas meter to protect it from the elements.
I also got a quote from a flooring company to do various jobs around the house. The quote wasn’t too bad moneywise considering the number of things I asked them to do.
No thinning required; it’s done with the berries. Mostly we just eat 'em,* though. And I dry flowers for tea.
We’re doing native plants and pollinator support on easy mode, though, everyone. Well, aside from the heavy lift of buying 25 acres of old growth forest in the first place. I didn’t plant either the elderberry or the hydrangea; both are growing happily right here. Well, I did put some elderberries in the compost after boiling them for syrup, so that may have been the start of the elderberry patch. But the hydrangea grows all over the north slope of the property here, and this one just popped up in front of the house. I water them both in drought conditions, but that’s all.
*ETA to add don’t eat raw elderberries - they need to be cooked.
Def jinxing myself by posting this but I think we are experiencing the Sleepy Newborn people talk about? Ravioli was very Not so this is foreign (and wonderful)
Just walked past two boys, probably around 10 years old, biking out of the woods near my house. I hear one of them say to the other, I dare you to say the kindest most nice thing you can think of to your mom.
as I was doing voice to text on this, as I kept walking, they just rode by and they both looked and waved at the baby and said hello very softly to her. The kids are all right.
German shepherd in the car ahead of me with its head out the window smiling at the world. That’s a good daycare drop-off.
A couple weeks ago I had such bad brain fog that I had convinced myself I left the outdoor water faucet on since the previous day and was panicking about the size of the water bill. (Because our yard floods, and it’s been raining a lot, this would not have been obvious.)
I received the water bill today and it is roughly the same as usual! THANK FUCK. I am so relieved.
I don’t know if Californians like him or not, but I’m just thrilled that he is standing up for his state.
TV: Lovely new mulch on two of the flower beds. (11 bags)
TC: I still have like 3/4 to go because I have so darn many beds. ![]()
Such a lush bed already!
Looks great!
I thought the contractor was going to split some hairs about one of the newer regulations (which I was fine with), but my sisters convinced me yesterday that I should consider getting it fully done for future proofing so we wouldn’t need to have people come back for a relatively small job in 5 to 10 years.
I asked the lead guy, and they already were planning on doing the full thing and it was in scope, I had misunderstood.
In scope is excellent news! And shows that you’ve got an excellent contractor.
This morning he asked if we were planning to get a/c, because if so he would run the power outside for it
Then he commented on the work I am doing with the rose and said something about it being a full time job. I didn’t say that it is mine now ![]()
We are hosting a party this weekend and the things we wanted to cook go on sale in this week’s grocery rotation!
I’m sitting on my screen porch with the cat listening to the rain. It’s really lovely.
Day 5 or 6? Post Gastro. I’ve finally eaten a variety of foods today without any of them making a rapid exit from my body ![]()

I’m still low key terrified of eating new things and still down 15 fucking lbs from my base line (literally, HOW), but food is beginning to stay in and I’m so happy ![]()

honestly insane I didn’t end up in the ER for fluids etc.
Asparagus and mushrooms and Bok Choy fried in garlic butter, topped with fried eggs.
Is it possible you really ought to have had fluids? Lol
YAY for keeping food down though.
