Yes I have an older sibling. He is very similar to my mom, so somehow even though growing up he caused my parents a lot of issues, he is now her favorite. I do think my mom thought she wanted kids, but in the end had a lot of unhealed trauma from her childhood that made it difficult for her to be a good parent. A lot of the current resentment is also because I quietly moved as far away as possible as soon as I could, and since I caused no problems growing up and never rebelled, I think they were very shocked by that decision.

I know my mom expected me to go to school to become a nurse, then move back home to take care of them in their dotage. Fuck that noise.
Turns out if you never really support your kid while they are growing up, they become pretty independent and uninterested in sacrificing their life to take care of you. YMMV

I don’t think so. The NYT article I read said that they refused to open the bill for changes. Thomas Massie (KY) and Brian Fitzpatrick (PA ) were the only Republicans that voted no.

I have no idea what the situation will be at work on Monday. So much of what we do has been cut. Escaping any clawbacks from funds already disbursed to the states, we have energy assistance funding through September 30th and our state funded programs were just renewed through June 30th next year. But no clue what’s gone from the federal programs through the Older Americans Act.

I think if they had changed it it would have had to go BACK to the senate and they’d have missed their self-imposed deadline. The chambers have to pass the exact same bill.

The power went out in our building. During a heat wave of temps around 90 degrees. And right after I’d just opened the fridge for a bit to assemble breakfast and pack my lunch for the day, so the temp was already a little over 40.
There was a coned work truck outside when I left, and before I even asked, the guy said it should be back on “soon”. Hopefully before everything in the fridge really warms up and I lose all of my meal prep…

It is truly a life altering level bad smell. Literally the only things worse I’ve encountered for smells are dead rodents and GI bleeds.

It really is distinct. I use it to check bags of potatoes at the store. I have smelled a rotting potato at the store before.
Oranges also have a heinous smell when rotting!
