This you two??
Whaaat Iāve been called out ![]()
(Iāve never actually seen this movie. Maybe I should)
OK itās actually really good but Iām biased bc I love Diane
Iām going to try to dig down in the freezer so I can defrost it this spring .
OMG, this is so us! Hubby is a Quicken numbers detail guy. Iām a goal oriented cash envelope budgeter. I keep trying to tell him they arenāt mutually exclusive. One can support and inform the other. But he looks at me like I have rocks in my headā¦especially when I pull out my money games to play. He has a hard time realizing I need a tactile money keeping system. ![]()
I need this in my life! After overspending in December I have decided I do not want to go out to eat this month. There are two exceptions, my friend is visiting on Friday so I know we will be doing this and also for my partnerās and I anniversary at the end of the month. Otherwise I do not plan on spending money on eating out.
Hubby and I are going out for supper tonight to Wendyās. I have a gift card to finish usingā¦and Iām exhausted!
Note to self: todayās trip to Giant Tiger (Jan 7) was all groceries. When I update, I donāt have to separate anything from the Giant Tiger total for today.
we went out to check some chair options for the shadowy one to use in the library for watching tv, and decided to wait until after lunch instead of eating out during the quest. so that is a win for restaurant spending
otoh, tbh meal planning continues to be a struggle
So far, so good. A quick review of the fridge every morning and a plan made for the rest of the day. I have discovered that mushrooms on toast is a tasty breakfast!
Only food waste has been a 1/3 of a bag of beansprouts left over from a pad thai. Normally I would have just eaten them raw but that is now seen as a health risk and they didnāt fit in with any other meal plans.
Ideas for leftover spaghetti noodles? Cooked too manyā¦and theyāre a bit chewy.
soup? gratin/casserole?
Thank-you! Soup it is!
I considered going to a brunch place that has been on my list for more than a decade that is close to the store we were thinking of buying a kitchen table from, but I decided because of this challenge that weād eat lunch at home and then head out.
We then did a longer walk than Iād expected (9km!), but I remembered we had soup in the freezer, so we had that for dinner instead of the other more involved meal I had been planning on
I know Iām late, but Iām only sorta participating. My children are fruit bats and none of us eat out just about ever, so our groceries are obscenely high. Season of life, picky eater children, etc etc. Anyway. Iām here for inspiration though because Iād love to make sure weāre using everything up in freezers and pantry. So, goals:
Updated freezer inventory
Convert some more freezer ingredients, like beans, into freezer meals, like black bean soup⦠then use dry beans to make more freezer beans ![]()
Skip butcher box for the month (done) and donāt stock up on easily procured pantry staples. (Ie, I can get black beans any time, a small sale isnāt worth it, but the organic oats I get from Costco only go on sale once every few months, so I got a couple bags of them) edit- done also by adding āPANTRY CHALLENGEā on all my grocery lists on my app
And honestly I think thatās it. Our food costs will continue to be obscene, but this will ensure weāve used everything weāve bought.
Past life hack that could help others- when I go through pantry and thereās something I bought but know I wonāt use, like I bought an aspirational peanut salsa that just isnāt gonna happen, but itās not expired? I put together a bag and drop that at a food bank donation site. Remove the guilt, pass on some cool products, avoid the food waste, more workable space in the pantry. Accept that I wonāt use it now, rather than waiting for them to expire and then it just gets composted.
Company arrivingā¦with supper today! Yippee!
