The trap I have is a pheromone trap, and I don’t think it’s too late to put one out. The pheromones do attract from a relatively large area, which means if they are in your neighbors yards but not yours then it might not be a good idea, but that doesn’t seem like your issue.
I was actually trying to get asiatic beetles with this trap, which are nocturnal, but the oriental beetles seem very active at dusk in my area.
The adults eat leaves, and the grubs eat roots. The asiatic one’s love basil if you’re willing to plant that as a trap/sacrificial crop. They are pretty bad at flying, which is why hand picking them into soapy water works so well.
If you want to try to target the grubs next spring, a product called milky spore should help, although I’ve never tried it myself.
Thanks. I have a lot of oriental beetles and I also see Japanese ones. I don’t know if my neighbors have them or not, I have an empty lot on one side of my house so that neighbor is fairly far away.
I don’t think it’s a cap, but I’m not sure. It looks solid. I guess I’ll take the pliers to it and see if I learn anything. There’s not just one, of course.
With all of the bullshit proclamations Trump has made and will certainly continue to make with no official approvals… If we get a decent president next time, can they simply change them back to something like they were or something decent at least? Like, I know that is not how it is “supposed” to work, but if he did it, can someone else too?
For instance ending tariffs, departing Iran, allowing trans people to have identification in their chosen names again, changing the Gulf of Mexico name back, etc etc etc. just to name a few things he has made proclamations about.
I think if Trump has taught us anything, it’s that presidents can be doing all sorts of shit no one thought presidents could (or should) do. So I think, yes.
I put a trap out last night and there are already a bunch in it. I’ve also been dropping them into soapy water when I see them and getting some that way. Overall, I think I’m pretty late in the season to help much with as much damage that’s already been done, but maybe it will help some. I will start early next spring. It’s quite annoying losing flowers to bugs, I need to pay better attention.
