Yes! I thought about stitch witchery and I own some, but never figured out how people keep the item flat and iron at the same time. I guess pin it and then pull the pins out of the melted hem while it’s still warm? I’d be so worried it would look puckered where it was pinned.
Can you even iron a shirt like this, which is basically made of plastic? Idk why but I always assumed you couldn’t iron Rayon, Polyester, Spandex, etc… like it would… melt?
I think you were asking if it’s stiff? Maybe a little stiffer than the rest, but still very soft and flows with the rest of the fabric. I’m not sure what they did.

Its probably a ‘bonded’ or ‘welded’ seam, it’s getting pretty common on a lot of athletic/outdoor gear. I’m not sure how easy it is to recreate at home, but there are products out there. You can technically iron/heat some synthetics, but usually at a much lower heat so as to not melt things too much.
It seems a bit tricky to recreate at home, it depends on how much length you have to experiment with.
Depending on what you want the finished hem to look like, I think you could do a careful hand sewn hem and press it on a super low heat with a pressing cloth and get a good result.
You can iron polyester, just not so hot! Your iron is adjustable. And yes, use a cover cloth.
I don’t use pins for hems any more, I use those plastic sewing clips. I think you’d have to go slowly and keep it nice and flat.
It depends on how committed you are to duplicating that exact look.
If I tried the stitch witchery and didnt like the way it looked, I would personally just hem it either by machine or hand. I don’t think that fabric will unravel too much, but I also don’t think anyone will be staring too closely at the hem of my shirt at the gym.
(Nobody is really looking that closely is one of my sewing mottos!)
Does anyone feel confident about little free library etiquette? We are heavy users* of their kids books and I want to be sure I’m playing my neighborly part. I return what I can + add books of my own that I don’t want once in awhile. I’m thinking I should buy a selection of used kids books? Add them one by one or a bunch at once?
I think rotating through as the books you’ve taken are no longer Bernito’s jam is fine. If you are really concerned about it, picking up some extra books to stock would be nice, but I think it’s understood to be one of those everything has a season sort of thing.
I exclusively use them for getting rid of books we don’t need (I think I’ve taken two books ever?) so happy to know there are people on the other end who are wanting books. As long as the one you use isn’t empty for a week after you take everything then I would assume it’s at a nice steady state and that you are doing your part by enjoying books!
It’s so funny bc on the same BLVD near me there will be empty ones and some so stuffed to the gills that the door doesn’t shut haha. Like I’m talking a 5 min walk away from each other.
I also use the little free library almost exclusively to get rid of books I don’t want anymore, so I give way more than I take. I assume it evens out.
I think I’d judge it more by how well the little free library tends to be stocked than how much you’re taking. I know kids books are really popular in a lot of them. Is the one you visit pretty well stocked? Or are you often taking the last couple kids books when you visit? If it’s well stocked, I wouldn’t worry about supplementing. If it’s often empty or if kids books are often out, then maybe I’d consider supplementing. If your public library has a used book sale you can often get used kids books really cheap.
This is not an answer to your question but I could probably hook you up with a bag of mostly Imagination Library stuff that you could sprinkle in. I need to do a cull. We also get free books from the consignment store and it’s starting to add up.
I think Ramona summed it up well! I tend to donate adult and take kids’ books but it is rare I give kids’ books. If there is space taking LBF’s library stuff sounds like a perfect solution!
I’ve given kids books to free little libraries but it took a while. When it finally happened it was like 8" worth of books, it was so great. I’ve snuck out more over time but Kiddo is one who likes to keep things out of sentiment to that’s limited me.
Your time will come, is what I’m saying, so don’t worry about it right now.
This is so wise! Yes kids books are almost always out, I think we are beating everyone else to the punch. Plans have been made to get books from @BiblioFeroz and I like @noodle ’s idea too. I like having a lot of kid’s books in the house so I don’t get rid of a ton myself.
I have always bought ceramic bowls for cat food and water. The water one always gets a ring of white stuff at the top edge from I assume hard water? So I just keep buying new ones when they get too ugly. I would like to stop doing that. I usually dump, rinse, and refill it but do not always wash it. Would washing it daily keep the buildup off? Would stainless or plastic bowls not allow the buildup? Her real preference is drinking from the bathroom faucet, so she doesn’t drink a ton from her bowl. I do not have a good location for a fountain.
