We’ve had a regular wood deck and a trex deck, and I would 100% pick the trex.

Cleaning and sealing a wood deck is not a job I like, and prefer the no splinters life.

My phone is old and I should go get a new battery, but I just don’t care that much. I try to charge it in when it hits 20% because it goes downhill pretty fast at that point.

I want to switch from using the forum in browser to using the discourse app but I can’t find OMD listed. Are there instructions posted anywhere?

I did Trex. I love it, that I only need to wash it.

Yes, it gets hot. I put an outdoor carpet over the section I walk across. It also gets very slippery with frost and snow.

I hate sanding and staining, and my deck was rotting out so for me it was totally worth it.

Every time someone writes Trex in this thread I think of the dinosaur.

Etiquette question: I’m the big boss at work. When someone gets married, I send around a card for everyone to sign. We do a little party and I give them the card and a gift “from the staff” but pay for it myself. Now I’ve gotten invited to an employee’s wedding. I’m not able to go, but should I still give a gift from myself personally?

I’m leaning toward the big gift from “the staff” and something smaller from myself personally. I think? Not sure. Note: I am not a thoughtful handmade gift person in this situation. If I gave a gift it would be something I could easily purchase off their registry.

based on the precedence you’ve set, the standard gift from ‘the staff’ and something smaller from yourself personally works, or you could do the standard gift from the staff and a separate card just from you.

I would lean against thoughtful handmade gift as the boss in most situations. (I had a skip boss who had a pottery kiln in his backyard, that would have made sense, but I’m not going to give someone something knitted)

Does anyone have ideas on how to use rose petals?

I saw a couple of ideas: dry them out, put them in a jar, let the jar sit for a few days, open the jar and use as a natural fragrance in your house. Or dry them and use for a bath.

Are they well scented roses? Any pesticides? Recommendations will vary based on those facts.

(You could also make rose water, or dry rose petals for culinary use)

No pesticides, and some are fragrant and some are not too strong!

I’d be tempted to make rosewater from the fragrant ones! But I’m obsessed so :joy:

I’ve made rose water in the past. The dried rose petals do put off some scent, so that’s an option too.

If you’re letting the flowers develop on the bush, rose hips for tea may be a future option as well.

We always had a potpourri jar when I was growing up - my mom dried tye rose petals. I don’t know if there was anything else in it, but it smelled wonderful.

I think my sister has that jar. It was very pretty.

We are a one cat household and our cat is, not to put too fine a point on it, bad. Although he is pretty good about being handled and even let me brush his teeth, he hides in a chair and swipes, he comes up behind me and nips my calves, he hides in the curtains and bites your hair.

We are cat sitting for my children’s other cats from Dad’s house and our cat is so much better. Since the first few days, no swiping or nipping.

Does that mean we should get a second cat? (An adult known to good with other cats.) Current cat is about 5 years old and has been with us since he was 4 months.

It sounds like your cat is bored, so he might like a friend.

The trick is to find a friend he likes!

Did you really think you would get any other answer than “Get another cat!” on this forum???

Also, you should totally get him a friend!

My biggest concerns are: that someone will mark territory and create an eternal pee nightmare, that we only have room for 1 litterbox and even putting out 2 food bowls will tax our space. We already have 5 humans and 1 cat in 1800 square feet!

Well, the forum probably won’t like to hear this, but I only have ever had one litter box for my two cats. They’re fine about it. I know it’s all very specific-cat dependent.

Is cat. They make use of the shelf and top of furniture space humans are silly to ignore.
