People sometimes tip mechanics or if the sales people (who are probably also the mechanics) do like a ton of work helping you find a bike to buy but there should be no expectation to tip when you just pick up some gear.
@turtlegirl how’s Kitty feeling? I just startled Little Cat while she was sleeping and thought of you. Hope she’s feeling better and things have settled down.
Aww… thanks for asking! We are doing better and it’s mostly peaceful here but I’m not completely sure if it’s because she’s actually better or because I’m trying not to let her look straight at my face too much. I’m basically just trying not to push her. She still loves me, she sleeps snuggled in with me and lays on my lap while facing away from me, but then hissed twice yesterday when she got close to my face. I got some of the delectable treats and held one and looked at her as a test while she ate it yesterday. She got weird a couple of times but did not hiss because she was eating a delicious snack, so it went well. I’m going to give her another one now…
If my parents who are at a campground in South Dakota and have just treated positive for Covid get a prescription for antivirals from their out of state doc, are they going to be able to fill it? Other options in South Dakota? They are near rapid city and are nearly 80. Both have had second booster, mom is immonosupressed.
Doc says no to out of state/ telehealth; they’re heading to an urgent care
Telehealth urgent care, it turns out.
how do i get good apples?
it seems like half of the ones i get are mealy or otherwise sad, no matter the time of year. where do you get good ones and how can you tell?
I usually go with NY apples since we’re in the Northeast and that seems to work well. I also tend to go with the ones that are on sale since that sometimes indicates a huge recent crop. I still get crummy bags on occasion, but not too often. If I get multiple bad bags somewhere I’ll search out a different produce place.
ETA: I’m also fully shameless and smell EVERYTHING. The nose knows.
Where do you live? Region?
pittsburgh! sometimes i get even local ones that are
Ah not one of the regions I have any knowledge of produce then sorry! Hopefully someone has specific advice.
I find many varieties of apples mealy, but Fuji and Honeycrisp are generally not.
It’s always going to be a crapshoot this time of year. They’ve been in storage for quite a while.
In the fall, Farmers Market or pick your own is a pretty sure thing.
This time of year I don’t bother much with apples, but honey crisp are usually okay. I just buy them at Aldi, and if they aren’t great they become applesauce.
This isn’t a question for people here, this is a question for the marketing department at Popeyes, or as I like to call it Pope Yes, because that’s all I see when I look at the sign. My question is WHY? Why? Who are you and why did you decide that for the 50th anniversary of the restaurant you would sell two pieces of chicken for 59 cents. That’s right, FIFTY NINE. Are you trying to break my mind? Are you trolling us? Do you hate making money? You were gifted this perfect fucking number and you’re going to just trash it by adding a god damned nine at the end? WHY? Why not offer one piece of chicken for 50 cents if it’s a profit issue? WHY TWO FOR 59??? Did the copywriters cry when you told them you were doing this? WHAT IS HAPPENING???
I have never even eaten there but I’m pretty worked up about it.
I am loving the cosmic crisps right now. Pink lady and ambrosia are hit and miss, but are decent second choices.
I go by the squeak of the peel and heft of the apple (heavier has more liquid/less mealy).
My guess is that’s the cost of two pieces of chicken 50 years ago!
This is exactly it.
- How on earth did you know that?
- How on earth do they expect most people to know that?
OK you have to eat there. They know their way around the bird. That spicy sandwich is worth the hype.
Other places have done promotions like that, but they actually spelled it out
