About how often? I’ve obviously never done this….

Once every couple years I think?

You can put the carriers you have together so they can see one another.

Are you absolutely positive that you won’t break it into two days?

I have driven from Detroit to NO with cats, so pretty similar. We drove from Florida to New Mexico and back with a cat. We drove from Ohio to Florida with cats multiple times. We just moved two cats from Ohio to Wisconsin. I’ve never had a cat use the litter box in the car. They complain bitterly, and then hunker down.

I guess that if I really wanted a kennel for two I’d get a large sized dog crate.

Maytag is what I’ve been looking at. They have one that I really like, with normal mechanical dials and nothing digital, but it’s $999 which to me seems like…a lot. I guess companies charge more now for the “basic model that is indestructible” haha. Great washing machine cleaning tip, I never knew that but I will do it now!

I used a crate like you pictured from Chewy when I moved two cats across the country, and it worked fine. I had a hatchback big enough for it to fit in, but it did take up most of my available space.

My trip was too long to do in a day, and I was alone, so I stopped. We stayed at pet friendly hotels. Once I got the cats from the crates into their carriers, it was no problem getting them to the room. I used one of those luggage carts with wheels so I could move everything at once.

I hear you on not using the mesh. I had originally gotten mesh carriers to transfer between the vehicle and hotel room. I took them for a test ride, and youngest cat had clawed her way out before I even drove two blocks down the street. If memory serves… I think I patched it with duct tape, and tape held. They were both freaked out enough when we were going to / from the hotel rooms that they weren’t trying to escape (kind of like how, when the cat is at the vet’s, they WANT to go back in the carrier). I think I stayed with the mesh carriers because the hard sided containers also take up a lot of space, and with the big crate in there too, I had to compromise.

I can look up what I bought most recently - pretty sure it was no where near $999! It has been a few years (3?), so pre-COVID, and pre-inflation jump (and pre-price gouging)

I paid slightly extra for a dryer that has a humidity sensor, so it knows when to turn itself off. This feature means everything always dries properly and it doesn’t run forever for no reason.

We bought our last units off of Facebook marketplace, really new, never installed, with manuals. Pretty sure that the divorcing person selling them wasn’t allowed to sell them (since they were clearing out the house to sell and you normally sell with appliances). And they were probably bought to help the house sell.

Highly recommend this. Steam functions and everything

I really really want to buy used appliances. I just have no way to pick them up or move them, which is a huge bummer, because there are a lot of great deals in my area! Every once in a while I come across an add that says they can deliver, but that seems rare in my area. I don’t have a friend with a truck, or friends who are strong enough to move the things. So right now I’m stuck buying new appliances from places that include delivery in the price.

The dryer itself I’m not so worried about because I live in the desert and almost everything dries in 30 min or less. I hang a lot of stuff out, and only dry towels/sheets a full 50-60 min, max. So my standards are super low for the dryer haha, it just needs to turn on basically

You can also always ask! We don’t usually list that we are offering delivery, but we have access to trucks easily, and have delivered appliances in the past for an extra $20-$50 depending on the type of appliance.

Yes. This is a big problem. I know there are people here who just help you pick up used finds, usually $50. Still adds up

I got my bed off Craigslist using this service called “Dolly” which is basically Uber for people with trucks.

Except I think maybe you’re in a city that it doesn’t exist in…

But also 1 day u haul rentals are pretty cheap. Doesn’t solve the muscle problem… maybe Uhaul plus a task rabbit?

If you do this (I love this feature) do not use dryer sheets. Whatever it is on the dryer sheets comes off and will eventually coat the humidity sensor and screw it up. I think you can use wool balls or something instead? I live in the land of humidity so static-y laundry is less of a thing for me, the handful of items I have that would get static-y I just let air dry anyway draped artfully on my dining room chairs.

Hometweaking had an IKEA cabinet where the litter box was accessed through a cat door in the bottom and I think you could set that up so there was a mat between the box and opening (and then you can open the cabinet door for cleaning) so that might work in a smaller space?

As someone from the PNW it’s hard to imagine a world where I don’t know what a rhodie is. They’re also called azaleas - do you have those?

I know they love acid so maybe they’re not common outside of coniferous areas?

Gaming friends: The old xbox controller I use for PC gaming has died, tragically. I prefer wired and they have to connect to a laptop. What affordable controllers do you recommend? Amazon has too many options and I have no idea.

Azaleas and rhododendrons have similar-looking flowers but are different plants—at least here on the east coast! Maybe both names are used for the same plant in the PNW…

No, they’re different plants here too. Related though.

They definitely get used interchangeably at the nursery I buy plants at but maybe it’s more just “oh that’s the azalea aisle” which holds both

Yeah the one I have has a sensor like that too
