I stayed with her for this one because I literally was making the decision to pull out of the other contract, got an e-mail from the MLS about this new listing, and called her and just did both things in one phone call. She was able to get me into the other house 30 min later for a showing, and I had an offer written an hour later…if this one doesn’t go anywhere though, I am going realtor shopping for sure, I’ve had several recs from local friends

I could google this but I trust you all more:

Is replacing my kitchen faucet a thing I can do myself with some YouTube tutorials and a few wrenches? Does the answer change if it involves turning a sink/faucet without a sprayer into a sink with a sprayer? There’s a little metal plug on the corner where a sprayer could go but I haven’t investigated how to pop it out.

Pictures of the new faucet and the destination?

I learned to switch out a faucet from YouTube, but my first time doing it was painful and took forever. The decision is based on your patience and tolerance for frustration right now.

I replaced a kitchen faucet myself, it was very easy, especially since the old one was garbage so I just cut the old water line out (I couldn’t unscrew a part of it). That sink had a retractable sprayer that was part of the main faucet itself, which I quite liked (if that makes sense).

I haven’t bought it yet because I haven’t decided if I’m replacing it yet. The trade offs are 1) the faucet has been dripping for 6 months and is getting worse and 2) is just replacing it easier than calling my landlord and having a real plumber replace it with something I don’t get to choose.

I think maybe if it do this I’ll get one that has the pullout from the faucet head and not from a separate part of the sink.

I agree that a pull down sprayer is the way to go.

My dh and my sil have replaced faucets and it has not entailed an unusual amount of swearing, so it is doable by amateurs (but not by me.)

That is totally doable! The one with the pull-out faucet that’s part of it and not on the side is much easier to install.

Before you buy the replacement look underneath to see if it’s using one hole or three. You can put a one hole faucet in where a three hole used to be, but you can’t put a three hole faucet in a one hole counter without drilling holes and I bet you don’t want to.

Excellent tip thank you!

I would be happy to walk you through it all if you want. I love this stuff.

I replaced a leaky gasket on the kitchen sink at our old place, but I don’t want to screw this up and THEN call the landlord, you know?

The risk isn’t some massive flood. The shutoff valves for your sink are probably perfectly good. The risk is living without a kitchen sink until you troubleshoot what goes wrong.

Something always goes wrong. You just have to hope it’s a little thing.

One other thing to check is if the water line connections are “standard”. You might need adapters if your incoming lines are an odd size or something (an old house for example). Also check if the lines (that are under the sink that attach to the knobs) are included with the kit you buy. And the plate the handles and faucet poke through come in different sizes as well, I think.

But honestly there’s tons of info online, and it’s easy to figure out.

How about if you buy the one you want but have the landlord install it?

That involves texting him more than once which to my brain seems more difficult than just handling it.

For a more reasonable person this would be an excellent suggestion. And there’s actually no evidence he’d be resistant, he’s told us to buy stuff and deduct it from the rent before. It’s just: I can handle this on my own for a price that is reasonable for me. Plus I’d get to learn something.
ETA: we have like 6 things that are almost sort of broken but just annoying, not actually broken. I feel weird about springing them all on him so if I can fix one without his knowledge or interference in a way that is satisfying then it seems like a win.

Does anyone know if Manitobah (the shoe brand) ever go on sale? I want some winter boots I think from them. They are very expensive. If they do have sales, I will wait.

Very rarely. Sometimes if they are discontinuing a colour or style.

:+1: good to know. I would feel really dumb to buy full price if the possibility existed. Thank you!

Check Sierra Trading Co (I think that’s the name) - probably last year’s styles (if they have the brand).

I think they only sell direct or through some smaller outdoor chains/independent shops (and with reduced selection).

They have sales every year around the holidays.

Maybe not all styles, though. I stalked their site for a year or so and waited for the ones I wanted to either go on sale or have a coupon offer.
